Iowa City Community School District: Special Education Behavior Interventionist QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or commensurate work experience. Master’s degree preferred. General knowledge of behavior management strategies Experience working with diverse populations Ability to use cultural knowledge to enhance student learning Initiative to be a self-starter Willingness to receive certification in QBS and additional training as necessary Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Special Education SUPERVISES: N/A JOB GOALS: This position will support the academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs of students by utilizing a comprehensive approach that includes the school, family, and community in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Work under the direction of the behavior specialists to implement behavior supports aligned with district and building procedures Develop behavioral interventions and intensive strategies to implement with identified students, including but not limited to: Provide direct skill instruction Review, observe, record, and chart behavior information Utilize the data-driven decision making process Communicate with school staff Coach and model social, emotional, and behavioral strategies for school staff Conduct behavioral assessments (e.g. preference assessments) Train school staff on the district’s crisis prevention training Assist during crisis, behavior management situations &/or office discipline referrals as directed by the behavior specialist and/or assistant director of special education Collaboratively plan with classroom teacher, building/district level support staff and administrators, AEA and parents of students as part of an educational team Develop relationships with students, staff and parents Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity in culture heritage, lifestyles, and values among children and families Participate in building meetings, district meetings, professional development, and individual coaching as assigned Other duties as assigned TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and calendar year to be established by the school board EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.About the company
