      Job Description:

      Under the direction of the Needham High School Director of Special Education and Needham High School Principal, the Special Education Coordinator will assist in implementing and managing effective, compliant, and fiscally responsible special education services for students at the high school (grades 9 through the PG Program).

      Essential Functions and Duties of the Position:

      The essential functions and duties listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

      • Chair team meetings for re-evaluations and initial evaluations
      • Ensure IEPs meet all regulatory and district standards, are written to reflect best practice, reflect high-quality programming, and are implemented with integrity
      • Work with the Special Ed Director and the building-based teams to develop and implement efficient and effective service delivery models reflecting best practice
      • Assist in managing complex and challenging cases, by maintaining effective parent, staff, advocate, and outside evaluator contact
      • Observe, supervise, and evaluate Special Education Teachers, Related Service Providers, and Instructional Assistants as assigned
      • Participate in and contribute to leadership meetings including High School Leadership, Special Education Coordinators, and District Leadership meetings
      • Plan for and contribute to effective transitions for students and their families from Pollard to NHS
      • Work with other school-based Special Education Coordinators to ensure consistency, cohesion, and coordination of practices across the district
      • Support general education specialists and teachers
      • Promotes a positive climate for learning, sensitively supports all persons, and actively works to create an inclusive, anti-racist environment.
      • Fosters a school environment that is physically and emotionally safe for all members.
      • Collaborates closely with the community, staff, students, and administration.
      • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective and respectful communication with students and parents.
      • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Special Education Directors, Principal, Superintendent, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent

      Education and Experience:

      • Master's Degree
      • Certificiation as a Special Educator, School Psychologist, or other related service provider at the high school level
      • Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure as an Administrator of Special Education

      Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

      • Depth of knowledge regarding special education laws, regulations, processes, and procedures
      • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills enabling information sharing and the development of trusting relationships with parents, staff, outside evaluators, advocates, and administrators
      • Skill in interpreting assessments and determining educational interventions in response to a learning profile
      • Demonstrated skill in meeting facilitation, case management, communication, and pedagogy
      • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage the special education referral and team process
      • Experience supervising and evaluating staff
      • Teaching or other special education service skills that will benefit the district

      Salary:
