- Required to hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Must meet the eligibility requirements for a Virginia Department of Education teaching license with endorsement in Special Education.
- Considerable knowledge in content area of learning theory and applications.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Demonstrates knowledge of specialized methodology for teaching students with disabilities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of specialized curriculum.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Assistive Technologies.
- Facilitates IEP Teams for students with special needs.
- Writes and implements student IEP.
- Compiles and maintain special education compliant files.
- Conducts assessments as needed for special education eligibility.
- Monitors and reports progress toward IEP Goals and Objectives.
- Completes all activities required for compliance with IDEA.
- Maintains accurate special education records.
- Submits required reports and documentation to administration
- Plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental level of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation in accordance with division, state and federal guidelines.
- Collaborates with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum.
- Communicates goals and objectives to students, parents, and cooperating staff.
- Establishes high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior.
- Employs a variety of research based instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of each student.
- Meets and plans regularly with content or grade level teams to develop unit plans, discuss teaching strategies, review disaggregated data, and review student educational plans.
- Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, parents, and supervisors.
- Assists in the collection of data for providing appropriate intervention.
- Assists in the preparation of data for local, state and federal reports.
- Performs other duties as designated by the principal and Director of Special Education
DESCRIPTION
The candidate is responsible for providing direct service to students with disabilities. Responsible for assisting with and implementing special education instructional programs, specifically dealing with students with all exceptionalities.
QUALIFICATIONS
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Immediate Supervision: Principal
Secondary supervision: Director of Special Programs
Contract: 10 months (200 days)
Salary Scale: Teacher
FLSA Status: Exempt
