      The Wright City School District has an opening for an elementary special education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.

      Position Title: Special Education Teacher

      Reports To: Principal/Director of Special Education

      Summary: Provides all students with a program that will enable them to reach their fullest potential and meet the outcomes stated in the Missouri Learning Standards and MAP assessment.

      Job Responsibilities:

      Instruction and Learning – Student achievement/performance and staff growth

      1. Supervises all students assigned in special education instructional activities.
      2. Assists in planning and developing special education curriculum.
      3. Establishes learning objectives for each lesson and maintains lesson plans for each instructional unit.
      4. Develops and adapts instructional materials and experiences to meet individual student needs, aptitudes and interests, using, as necessary, a variety of strategies.
      5. Assesses and records student accomplishments on a regular basis through an approved grading scale.
      6. Develops and implements a variety of teaching strategies.
      7. Establishes and maintains an effective climate for learning.
      8. Utilizes appropriate classroom management and discipline procedures.
      9. Maintains appropriate substitute teacher file.
      10. Evaluates and recommends instructional aid and textbooks.
      11. Attends and participates in individualized educational conferences.
      12. Provides special education technical assistance and consultation to building staff.
      13. Serves as positive role model and leader for students to follow.
      14. Assesses and reassesses as required, needs and performance of students.
      15. Diagnoses student strengths and needs and plans educational activities accordingly.
      16. Uses designated curriculum to develop and implement lesson plans and activities.
      17. Observes safety precautions to protect students, equipment and facilities.
      18. Participates on committees, in meetings and in professional growth activities as approved by supervisor.
      19. Maintains supply and equipment inventory and orders in accordance with budget.

      Collaboration

      1. Meets with teachers, therapists, administration, parents and others as needed.

      Compliance

      1. Maintains accurate attendance records on students and follows school procedures for reporting student attendance.
      2. Enforces safety policies and practices required by the federal and state laws, the school district and the department.
      3. Follows District’s policies and procedures as adopted by the Board of Education.
      4. Reviews state and district standards for subject area and provides instruction which enables students to meet designated standards.
      5. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

      Qualifications:

      Education and/or Experience:

      Bachelor’s degree in education (as required for the position) required.

      Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

      Special education certification.

      Language Skills

      Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively one-on-one and before groups.

      Mathematical Skills

      Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.

      Reasoning Ability

      Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

      Physical Demands

      While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Regular attendance on the job is expected.

      Terms of Employment:

      Contract terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education’s policies, agreements and approvals.
