    • Satisfactory completion of criminal background verification.

    • Master’s degree in vocational evaluation, counseling, special education, psychology, transition or related field.

    • Valid New Mexico driver’s license

    • Valid Rehabilitation Counseling License issued from the NM PED

    • Serves as interagency liaison between the school, community agencies, post-secondary institutions & their special services departments and employers.

    • Provides & facilitates career counseling services to special education students.

    • Provides technical assistance and training to special education teachers in developing and implementing transition plans.

    • The incumbent works with various company staff members in a team environment including the administrative staff, State Department personnel, District legal counsel, parents, students, advocates and others outside the District.

    • Frequent interactions with people in person and on the phone will be necessary.

    • Travel from location to location will be necessary.

    • Duties are primarily performed in a normal school or office environment.

    • Provides technical assistance & training to special education teachers in developing & implementing transition plans.

    • Coordinates transition program development at high school & middle school levels which support planning & supports a continuum of career development activities.

    • Assists & collaborates with school counselor concerning pre-registration planning, registration, & developing course selection options for students to assist in meeting transition plans.

    • Provides career & post-secondary planning information & training to parents of special education students.

    • Collaborates/partners with families to develop a compliant & meaningful transition plan.

    • Collaborates with general education staff involved in school-to-career transition programs.

    • Collaborates with the instructional manager/case manager & school staff to ensure implementation & compliance of transition plans.

    • Maintains current labor market information, post-secondary information, and materials to assist special education teachers in identification of student preferences and skills.

    • Collects follow-up study data. Maintains and interprets data in District follow-up study.

    • Provides technical assistance to sponsor teachers and counselors on outside agency and post-secondary applications.

    • Collaborates with teachers, counselors and post-secondary staff to provide and facilitate transition assessments and post-secondary placement/entrance exams.

    • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds & enforces rules, administrative directions & regulations, school board policies, and local, state & federal regulations.

    • Articulates & facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the District.

    • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.

    • Prepares and maintains accurate & complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.

    • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.

    • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.

    • Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.

    • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.

      Job Description:

      Coordinates career counseling & career development services for special education students in the high school and middle schools; provide technical assistance to ensure appropriate planning & coordinate non-school services.
