Provides leadership for teachers within the workforce programs in Adult Continuing Education through the design and delivery of staff development opportunities
Monitors, evaluates, and guides program direction, and supports teachers and coordinators, ensuring fiscal and program compliance
Facilitates curriculum development for the workforce programs in Adult Continuing Education through the design and development of proposed curriculum through the approval process; provides assistance, direction, observation, and evaluation of curriculum implementation
Observes evening workforce instructional programs in Adult Continuing Education classes (approximately 500 students annually); consults with and provides individual support to teachers; monitors instructional programs and provides communication to teachers
Contacts class locations to schedule Workforce and enrichment classes, and relays information to staff prior to each semester for listing in the Adult Continuing Education catalog
Participates in the interview and hiring process of new instructors, as requested
Facilitates the operation of the Pearson Vue testing center; Hires, monitors, and schedules testing proctors for the testing site through the Temporary Work Assignment (TWA) process
Orders materials for the department as needed and assists with interviewing teacher candidates and testing personnel
Develops the Adult Continuing Education catalog, secures technical/enrichment course teachers, sites, and personnel for the testing site
Represents Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) on local and state committees related to Adult Continuing Education
Assists with writing and managing applicable grants
Serves as a professional resource and support for teachers, school administrators, and other instructional personnel; provides orientation on instructional goals for new teachers and review sessions for experienced teachers
Monitors expenditures and ensures compliance with financial management guidelines and requirements, as applicable
Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence
May perform other duties as assigned

This position manages daily operations in the development and implementation of workforce programs in Adult Continuing Education, including Technical and Enrichment courses, and coordinates Adult Continuing Education classes throughout Chesterfield County. Complex work is performed within specific department objectives and policies; the employee coordinates with others as necessary. Contacts are frequently made at all levels within and outside the department; professional judgment is required.
Essential Job Functions:
Budgetary Responsibility :
This position monitors expenditures and ensures compliance with financial management guidelines and requirements, develops grant budgets, and reviews monthly financial statements with Grant Specialists.
Report Preparation :
Prepares monthly updates for the Coordinator of Alternative Programs, as well as the yearly Grant Partnership Summary to be submitted to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)
Equipment Operation :
Utilizes a personal computer, fax machine, telephone, calculator, copier, and related office equipment
Contacts :This position has frequent contact with the Coordinator of Alternative Programs and other Alternative Education personnel, as well as external contacts, including business leaders and government agencies. Occasional contact is made with the Office of the State Director of Adult Education.
Work Direction/Supervision :
This position may provide work direction to Technical/Enrichment teachers, as well as testing personnel, but has no direct reports.
Decision Making :
Functions independently within the context of daily activities
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities :
May provide input or recommendations related to policy changes, as requested by the Coordinator of Alternative Programs

Work Environment :
The employee regularly works in an office environment . The noise level is quiet to moderate.
Considerable knowledge of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of Adult Continuing Education. Considerable knowledge of the budget process, of fiscal management, and of securing special funding sources. Working skills in a wide variety of media. Demonstrated ability to secure, monitor, and evaluate instructional programs and to coordinate programs and activities. Demonstrated ability to organize, schedule, and monitor work assignments, and to design and conduct program evaluation. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations; to plan, organize, and administer a public school curriculum; and to provide work direction to a diversified professional staff. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, research, and planning.
Must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license. Secondary or post-secondary administrative experience, or any equivalent experience or training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid VA Driver’s License.
Preferred: Master’s Degree, with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
