Job Description

- Serves as the banner specialist for all student information system users (primarily Student Services and instructional divisions).
- Troubleshoots and solves problems for the Banner Student and Texas Connection Consortium (TCC) modules.
- Maintains and updates Curriculum Advising and program planning (CAPP), adding, deleting, and revision of curriculum programs.
- Assists with implementation and maintenance of CourseLeaf products CAT, CIM, and PATH.
- Creates, generates, and updates training including course section creation, registration overrides, Banner queries, GPS for both face-to-face and online training.
- Develops and implements all Degree Works set-up, maintenance and revisions through use of Transit, Surecode, and Shepentry.
- Implements THECB-mandated and institutionally-required Banner registration modification to meet TSI standards and student success requirements for all enrolling students.
- Implements all new related features as delivered by Ellucian Banner TCC Banner and Degree Works and completes all related testing, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Analyzes and determines all Banner Student security requests and manages the Banner Student security procedures.
- Processes end-of-term jobs and reports to roll grades to academic history, calculate credit hours, GPA, and academic standing for each part of term.
- Calculates beginning of term dates for each part of term and enters the information that drives registration, drop/adds, refunds, etc.
- Acts as liaison between end users of managed software and ITS.
- Maintains and updates curriculum-related modules in Banner catalog, including pre/corequisites, course and program restrictions, course descriptions, and state reporting cross reference information.
- Manages the creation and maintenance of Degree Works Student Educational Planner templates based on faculty submitted and validated ‘MAPS’ for Pathways Transfer Institutions.
- Implements and coordinates the THECB testing thresholds for SAT, TSIA, High School Provisional MOU’s, and other ‘College Ready’ resources.
- Manages the availability of the grading timeframe for faculty each part of term and work in tandem with Blackboard grading requirements and changes.
- Serves on appropriate committees and task forces to represent Banner Student System Services.
- Continues professional development through attending workshops, conferences and other staff development events.
- Develops the Banner schedule and all related calendars as necessary, and advises the Finance Department, Director of Financial Aid, and all other affected departments of changes.
- Utilizes Argos reporting to manage TCC 6-Drop THECB required guidelines for drops.
- Provides troubleshooting and problem solving for the Degree Works graduation compliance system.
- Facilitates departmental communication by maintaining departmental pages on the internal and external websites.
- Restructures validation tables and Banner Forms to remain in compliance with the THECB.
- Verifies of student degrees via the National Student Clearinghouse database.
- Generates SFRRGAM report after grades of W are rolled and after each part of term, End of Term processing procedure is complete. Formats, analyzes, and sends output to required constituents.
- Maintains program codes in ApplyTexas application external database.
- Updates Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) for SJCD on TCCNS external database.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Detail-oriented, ability to work with minimum supervision, and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
- Must possess excellent public relations, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills
- Extreme accuracy, proofreading, and excellent communication skills
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, database management, and presentation software
- Must be available to work overtime if needed
- Must have fluent computer skills with intimate knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
- Some technical knowledge of Oracle database tables and SQL is helpful, but not required
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree with three years of experience working in Banner in a higher education registrar’s office, curriculum, or advising setting
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three years of Ellucian product experience in either Banner Application Navigator Internet Native Banner (INB) or Degree Works
- Two years of experience in the Banner Student Module or DGW Functional Management
- Experience in training and support of student information system end users
- Detailed knowledge of one of the following:
- Admissions
- Registration
- Curriculum
- Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
- Texas State Reporting
- Knowledge of Scribe language and the functionality of Degree Works
- Experience serving on an implementation team supporting Banner or Degree Works
Specialist, Banner Student - South Campus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Maintains, updates and provides support for the Banner Student module and other related student system software. Demonstrates expertise in using Banner to evaluate system performance and improve business processes across varied College areas.
