Main duties of the job
TThe Nutrition and Dietetic service is split into speciality teams; secondary care, bariatrics, primary care, adult and paediatric diabetes, home enteral feeding, and paediatrics. We are supported by Dietetic assistants and Central Administration.
Our service is based on four sites at Darlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital North Durham, Bishop Auckland Hospital and Shotley Bridge Hospital.
The community dietetic team provides cover to the general adult population within County Durham and Darlington and covers nursing home visits, domiciliary home visits, community training sessions, community. The post holder will be based at Bishop Auckland Hospital but will be required to cover other areas within the locality of County Durham and Darlington

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for a their own caseload referred to the service by community or secondary care professionals. Patients will be seen individually, in groups or with carers in a variety of settings including hospital wards, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, own homes and telephone clinics. The post holder will work closely with other Community Dietitians and members of the wider multidisciplinary team.
The department trains dietetic students (A, B and C placement) and the post holder will have an active role in student training planning, co-ordination and assessment
The Nutrition and Dietetic service is structured into teams; secondary care (incorporating nutrition support and critical care), bariatrics, primary care (incorporating care home training), adult & paediatric diabetes, adult Home Enteral Feeding, paediatrics (incorporating Home Enteral Feeding and paediatric weight management). the nutrition and dietetic service comprises of 6 teams, with 49 Dietitians, 1 Specialist Nurse, 4 Dietetic assistants and we are supported by central administration. We are based on 4 sites in the County, at Darlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital North Durham, Bishop Auckland Hospital and Shotley Bridge Hospital.
New graduates are very welcome to apply and take up this position as a training and development role, with responsibilities and role adjusted accordingly. Please note that the appointment will be made at Band 6 Annex 21 (which will be 75% of top of band 6 as per NHS Agenda for Change) or Band 6 dependent on qualifications and experience. If you are appointed under Annex 21 conditions, once you have successfully completed our 12 month competency based training programme you will progress to a permanent Band 6 grade. (The contract ends if an applicant does not successfully complete the required learning objectives within this time frame under the Annex 21 scheme).
