      Qualifications:

      Bachelor's degree in related field

      Valid Texas certificate appropriate for educating preschool children with disabilities.

      Minimum 3 years’ experience as early childhood teacher

      Ability to work with school and community population

      Primary Purpose:

      Provide consultation to and training for early childhood teachers and to parents of students with disabilities. Be able to provide demonstration teaching and assist teachers in acquiring the skills necessary for a successful classroom. Monitor and assist with integrating students with disabilities with their non-disabled peers. Provide direct teacher consultation for students with disabilities who are in crisis situations and/or whose educational progress has not been consistent with IEP goals.

      Major Duties and Responsibilities:

      1. Demonstrate knowledge of program requirements and best practices in area of early childhood.
      2. Model effective teaching strategies with specific students as specified on their IEPs.
      3. Observe specific students in various settings in order to make recommendations for individual IEP or behavior plans.
      4. Assist teachers in ECSE, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten with setting up structured environments for their classroom, including student schedules.
      5. Assist new early childhood teachers (ECSE – Kindergarten) and provide technical assistance in the development of teaching strategies.
      6. Assist with behavioral needs within the early childhood classrooms through Kindergarten.
      7. Provide required in-home training to students and parents as requested by the ARD committee so that IEPs are in the home, school, and community.
      8. Facilitate, prepare, and present required and requested professional learning for the district and community.
      9. Use data analysis of student’s performance to set goals and evaluate program effectiveness.
      10. Assist teachers in writing legally defensible PLAAFPS and IEPs as needed.
      11. Assist in the selection and evaluation of appropriate instructional materials and resources that are aligned to curriculum standards and student needs as appropriate.
      12. Facilitate the design, development, writing, editing, and updating of the curriculum as appropriate.
      13. Collaborate with Pre-K department to align expectations for curriculum and instruction.
      14. Collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction department to ensure expectations within the Kindergarten program.
      15. Interpret and communicate federal, state, and local requirements necessary for program compliance.
      16. Promote positive district and community relations through effective communication and involvement of parents, community, and staff.
      17. Collaborate with Coordinators as necessary.
      18. Assist with implementation of Extended School Year (ESY) services for early childhood.
      19. Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
      20. Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

      Equipment Used:

      Personal computer, copier, printer, and fax machine.

      Working Conditions:

      Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards. Must have valid Texas driver's license.
