      Specialist Geologist (Resource Geology) – Perth

      About the role

      We are looking for a Specialist Geologist to generate geological and resource models within a dedicated, multi-discipline, Perth based team.

      The primary focus of the role is to create geological models and complete resource estimates to support the development of orebodies for the future of Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO).

      The role will be accountable for:

      • Completion of Geological Models using geoscientific data
      • Undertaking Resource Estimations using geostatistical methods
      • Ensuring the models are fit-for-purpose and delivered to RTIO standards
      • Communicating and presenting to stakeholders
      • Data management
      • Using reconciliation data to improve and validate models
      • Ensuring risks are flagged and communicated
      • Contributing to, and implementing continuous Improvement initiatives.

      What you’ll bring

      • Tertiary qualification in Geoscience related field
      • Demonstrated collaborative and communication skills with multiple stakeholders
      • A minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience
      • An understanding of how resource models impact the value chain
      • Understanding of sampling methods, assay laboratories, and Quality Assurance / Quality Controls practices
      • Have a good understanding of Pilbara iron ore deposit types, mineralogy and material types
      • Self-motivated with a drive for success and continuous improvement
      • Excellent problem-solving skills
      • An ability to manage and evaluate large geoscientific data sets
      • Experience in 3D geological modelling and/or resource estimation
      • A working knowledge of 3D geological and geostatistical modelling software (including, but not limited to Vulcan, Isatis/Neo, Supervisor and Leapfrog) is preferable
      • The ability to use reconciliation data to understand problems and aid the estimation process
      • Strong commitment to Rio Tinto Values, Behaviours and Safety
      • A current and valid Western Australia “C” class licence, or equivalent is preferable.

      Desired Skills

      • Mine Geology, Resource Development, Exploration, and/or Grade Control experience
      • University level qualifications in Geostatistics.
