Job summary
Are you a Speech and language Therapist looking for an opportunity to widen your experience and develop your skills in working with Adults who have Learning Disabilities?
We have a full time trainee Band 6 post in a Multi-disciplinary Community Learning Disability team covering Lancaster and Morecambe and Fylde and Wyre and would welcome applications from Speech and language Therapists currently working in Band 5 or Band 6 posts or from NQPs. Appointment would initially be at either band 5 or Band 6 depending on experience with an expectation that the post holder would develop the competencies to work in a band 6 role. Applications from NQPs will be considered and they would be supported to develop their NQP competencies in line with RCSLT guidelines before developing their competencies in the band 5 and then a band 6 role (with an expectation to achieve this within 24-36months).
You will work alongside two Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists across Lancaster and Morecambe and Fylde and Wyre delivering interventions to meet the communication and dysphagia needs of adults referred to the Multidisciplinary Community Learning Disability Health Team (CLDHT) consisting of nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists , Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatrists.
Main duties of the job
You will join a network of Speech and Language Therapists delivering interventions in the CLDHTs across the ICS and meet on a monthly basis for group clinical supervision, to share good practice and initiate service improvements.
You will have opportunities to develop specialist skills across a range of clinical areas including dysphagia, AAC, Total Communication and high level language difficulties with clinical supervision from Speech and Language Therapists across the teams. You will have opportunities to develop your leadership skills and take an active role in service development including training, outcome measures and research.The post will include both communication and dysphagia and although dysphagia competencies would be preferred, consideration will be given to applicants who are willing to engage in training to develop their competencies.
