Job summary
A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 7 Speech & Language Therapist to join the Inpatient Therapy service based at Parklands Hospital. This is an exceptional opportunity to work in a genuinely holistic Speech & Language role within an established, friendly, & supportive team.
We are looking for motivated & compassionate Speech & Language Therapists to help us shape the development & delivery of inpatient mental health services. Parklands Hospital is a recovery focused in-patient mental health unit situated in North Hampshire. The hospital provides both Ministry of Defence & National Health Services comprising of two acute admission wards, a functional older adult ward, a dementia unit, & a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
Your responsibilities will include supporting the service to optimise admission, exploring any problem areas with Dysphagia & communication, supporting education across the MDT, leading on training & supporting teams following Choking incidents. You will be part of an AHP led therapy team comprising of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Creative Therapists, Technicians & Assistants.

Main duties of the job
The post holder has responsibility to provide a Specialist Speech and Language Therapy service within Parklands Hospital, Basingstoke. The role will work with patients across adult and older adult mental health services.
They will have the lead role for running the SLT service within the hospital in conjunction with the AHP Therapy Manager and this will include assessment and treatment of clients presenting with complex communication disorders and dysphagia. The assessments and interventions undertaken by the SLT service will be embedded within the framework of:
o The principles of MDT working
o The holistic model of care (4 tier model)
o The 6 clinical areas of practice
They will provide managerial and clinical support to other members of the AHP Inpatient Therapy Team and ensure supervision of student SLTs on placement.
Within their role they will provide support to the AHP Therapy Manager relating to the clinical governance and development of services within Parklands.
