      The Specialist/Technical Services Support formulates and executes training programs within the Technical Services areas of gas measurement, pressure control/regulation, instrumentation, and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system at Southwest Gas (SWG) Corporation. Additionally, this position is responsible for reviewing, approving, and providing technical support of new meter, regulator and related technology, and maintaining gas measurement, control valves and associated systems such as programmable logic controllers (PLC), smart pressure and temperature transmitters, automated and pneumatic control valves, pressure control/regulation, and meter shop policies and procedures.

      QUALIFICATIONS

      There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. The incumbent will have a vast technical background in the areas of gas meters and pressure regulators. The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in the areas of meter testing, meter repair, regulator testing, regulator repair, regulator control systems, instrument testing and SCADA system operations. A working knowledge of corrosion protection systems, control valves and associated systems, electronics, and leak survey methods is desirable.

      The incumbent must be able to communicate clearly in writing and orally. An ability to teach technical subjects is required. The incumbent’s skills will have a strong influence on the measurement accuracy maintained by the Company and a safety and reliability of Company regulator stations.

      ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Develop and present training syllabus and hands-on exercises on electrical and electronic equipment, communications, pressure control/regulation and metering equipment to provide field personnel with the knowledge to efficiently and successfully perform job duties
      • Provide Operator Qualification (OQ) training to employees as it relates to pipeline-related work ensuring compliance with government regulations
      • Test and evaluate operation of new products for electronic measurement, pressure control/regulation and metering equipment to ensure compatibility with the existing system, resolving issues as they arise
      • Provide technical support and problem resolution to field personnel
      • Act as point of contact between field personnel and vendors, assisting with troubleshooting and problem resolution as needed
      • Assist the department in maintaining and communicating actions related to the Company’s Meter Performance Program to effectively manage proper functionality of in-service meters
      • Advise Technical Services department of proper installation methods for electronic equipment to ensure compliance with National Electrical Code and SWG standards
      • Create and review standards for the SWG Operations Manual to ensure compliance with current codes, SWG Company policies and comprehensible to field personnel
      • Provide station design support to Engineering to ensure successful installation deployment and operations of standard and non-standard station design
      • Provide support to internal departments including proposing component applications and specifications, recommending approved processes and procedures, and ensuring regulatory compliance
      • Revise and update the Measurement & Control Sections of the Operations Manual to remain current with technology and/or compliance requirements
      • Revise, update, or create new material specifications to assist suppliers with desired materials for procurement that meet operational needs
      • Support projects companywide as they relate to and/or affect measurement & control by assisting and providing technical support
      • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
      • Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

      SALARY DETAILS

      $77,716 - $116,574
