      Job summary

      To work in our Paediatric and Neonatal units providing support and care to our patients in a team environment. This is a full time, permanent position at 10PAs.

      Main duties of the job

      To perform duties at the middle grade level, but may be expected to support the SHO team if required.

      Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge including all administrative duties associated with patient care as middle grade.

      Support outpatient clinics under supervision from consultant and thus contribute to the provision of a comprehensive efficient paediatric service across Milton Keynes.

      Provide evidence-based care for all patients within their sphere of responsibility. To liaise effectively and in a timely manner with the General Practitioners, Community Services and all other health care agencies when appropriate.

      Responsible for carrying out teaching as required and to contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.

      Required to participate in audit, clinical governance.

      Involvement in research is encouraged.

      Medical and dental staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with regional and appropriate hospital health and safety policies.

      About us

      The Paediatric department comprises teams of junior doctors, middle grade doctors and consultants working together in the management of children and young people. The post holder would be expected to join the middle grade team supporting both general paediatrics and neonatology. In acute Paediatrics, there are currently 14 full time consultants. The junior doctor rota has recently expanded and provides separate out of hours cover for both general paediatrics and neonates.

      Job description

      To participate in the rolling rota which is outlined in the job plan, including long days and night shifts. The rota also provides regular sessions for supporting professional activities.

      To perform urgent Child Safeguarding Medicals when the concern is in the category of physical abuse, under the supervision of the consultant.

      To undertake general paediatric outpatient clinics and other special interest clinics as appropriate to the skills/interests of the post holder and as agreed at annual job planning.

      Departmental teaching is held weekly, and Middle Grade doctors are encouraged to be an active contributor to the teaching program as well as research, audit participation and appraisal. The Middle Grade doctor will also be expected to supervise and assist the more junior grades of doctor.

      The post holder must maintain continuing professional development and will be encouraged to attend relevant professional courses and meetings.
