      About the Position: Serves as a Specimen Controller assigned to the Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory, an organization providing support for the overall substance abuse program for the United States Army and Department of Defense.

      This position will be filled on a permanent basis.


      Position is being filled at the GS-06 target GS-07 level. Duties described reflect the full performance GS-07 level. Duties will be performed in a developmental capacity under close supervision.

      Duties


      • Performs mutual quality control checks on the work of fellow Specimen Controllers on a daily basis.
      • Responsible for performance of technical and administrative support functions necessary for successful unit mission accomplishment.
      • Performs a wide variety of detail-oriented technical and administrative duties in a narrow specialty area of a scientific field.
      • Uses a computer, in support of the specimen accessioning and handling.
      • Functions include, but are not limited to specimen handling and storing, laboratory operations, administrative and logistical support.

      Requirements


      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • Appointment to this position is subject to a T1 background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
      • Laboratory and individual certifications are a requirement of the forensic laboratory.
      • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
      • This position requires the incumbent to frequently lift and carry item weighing up to 15 pounds.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.       To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience which includes; 1) Utilizing a computer to record, store, and retrieve medical information; 2) Sending customer inquiries to the appropriate personnel; and 3) Taking inventory of specified items to ensure accuracy of reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service, GS-05.
