- Provide appropriate intervention and evaluate outcomes.
- Provide advice to parents and carers, early years and school staff and other professionals on matters relating to the speech, language and communication needs of individual children and young people.

Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated full time B5 Speech and Language Therapist .
This post will be based in Newton Abbot and the surrounding area and will be part of the highly supportive Torbay, South and West Team, delivering a community speech and language therapy service to children and young people within clinic and education settings.

Main duties of the job
The Communication and Interaction pathway consists of Speech and Language Therapists working across Devon and Torbay.
The aim of the team is to ensure that specialist support is easily accessible within the community settings, providing both direct support to children, young people and families, and to the wider community teams.
Everyone in the team is provided with regular supervision, opportunities for training and development
Independently manage, with access to support from more senior colleagues and the team, a caseload of children and young people in the Torbay (Newton Abbot) area with developmental disorders of speech, language and communication.
The provision of a speech and language therapy service of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders of speech, language and communication.

Communicate complex condition-related information from assessment to children/young people and families, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team/other professions in a way that is accessible and easily understood.
This will include facilitating strategies for people with communication disorders where barriers to understanding may exist.
Demonstrate empathy with children/young people and families, carers and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to communication exist, or sensitive issues are being dealt with. Children/young people and families and carers will frequently have difficulty accepting the information provided.
Develop and demonstrate negotiation skills in the management of conflict across a range of situations e.g. differences in professional opinion, differing views within families, with the support from colleagues as needed.
Form productive relationships with others who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties.
Employ good presentation skills to promote multi-disciplinary and interagency liaison and collaborative practice to a broad range of audiences including other professionals and users
