      Job Summary

      Provides spiritual care and emotional support to patients, their families and staff, including exploration of issues that are of meaning and value and/or issues causing moral or spiritual distress. Serves as a bridge to the patient's religious/spiritual community and/or congregation and to appropriate religious/spiritual leaders. Fosters conversation and clarification on cultural, ethical, religious, and other topics/dynamics that can affect patient care, family interactions, and staff performance. Facilitates and nurtures religious rituals and spiritual practices as needed by patients, families and staff and provides spiritual counseling and guidance to enable the integration of beliefs, attitudes and responses inherent to well-being in the clinical setting.

      The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

      Applies acquired skills and professional clinical applications concepts for small to medium sized projects of moderate scope. Operates independently within defined scope of responsibilities.

      Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

      The salary range for this position is $69,900 - $104,900 (Annual Rate).

      Required Qualifications

      • Master’s degree in Religious Studies, Divinity or Theology required or equivalent in relevant training/experience. Completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at an ACPE accredited healthcare center.
      • One year as a Chaplain in a hospital setting; pediatric preferred. Ordination or Commission in a religious community and/or meets ecclesiastical endorsement for healthcare ministry.
      • Ability to successfully navigate diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs and values with cultural humility.
      • Ability to conduct oneself in accordance with the Standards of Practice for Professional Chaplains and in keeping with that which is required for Board Certification with one of the following national chaplain organizations: APC, NACC, NAJC, ACPE, and CASC.
      • Technical Knowledge: Ability to chart in, utilize for information gathering and navigate patient’s electronic medical records. Basic computer and mobile device skills.
      Physical Requirements:
      • Travel: Must have the ability to orient and work at all inpatient locations
      • Sit: Up to 6 hours/day
      • Stand/Walk: Up to 6 hours
      • Bend/Stoop: Up to 3 hours
      • Reach: Up to 6 hours
      • Rep Use of UE/Grasp: Up to 6 hrs
      • Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment
      • This job requires the ability to hear alarms clients and/or instructions.
