      The Adoption and Permanency Branch is responsible for supporting timely permanency planning and adoption for children and youth in care throughout the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies (ICFS Agencies) and the practice oversight of Licensed Adoption Agencies. The branch provides direct services to the public and stakeholders throughout BC, Canada and internationally in the administration of Adoption Registries. Pursuant to the Adoption Act, the branch operates five registries including the Adoption Reunion Registry, the Inter-country Registry, the Openness Exchange Registry, the Post-adoption Openness Registry and the Parents’ Registry.

      The Adoption and Permanency Worker provides permanency and adoption support services to Service Delivery Division and Indigenous Child and Family Service Agency staff as part of a provincial team. The team provides services for children, permanency parents and birth parents, and provides support to Ministry Staff, ICFS Agency staff and community agencies. The Adoption and Permanency Worker communicates directly with families, supports staff with complex permanency plans and facilitates timely permanency plans for children and youth in care.

      JOB REQUIREMENTS:

      Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements.

      1. Preferred Credentials:

      • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
      • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
      • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered; OR A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.

      2. Expanded Credentials:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
      • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.

      Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

      • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.


      Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

      Preference Will be given to applicants with the following:

      • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
      • Experience assessing individuals’ history as it relates to their current functioning.
      • Experience identifying strengths, risk factors and/or support needs which may affect current family functioning.


      Preference May Be Given To Applicants With The Following:

      • Experience or training in investigative interviewing of adults and/or children.
      • Experience in working collaboratively with Indigenous peoples or within Indigenous nations/communities.
      • Experience completing SAFE Home Studies.
      • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

      • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

      About this Position:

      There are three (3) positions available:

      • Two (2) regular full-time positions; One (1) position can be based out of Burns Lake, Chetwynd*, Dawson Creek, Fort St. James*, Fort St. John, Hazelton*, Houston, Mackenzie*, Prince George, Stewart*, Vanderhoof or Williams Lake. The other position can be based out of Clearwater, Fernie, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nelson, Penticton, Princeton or Vernon.
      • One (1) temporary full-time opportunity to August 30, 2024 based out of Abbotsford, Burnaby, Chilliwack Langley, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver or Whistler. This temporary opportunty may be extended or may become permanent. The temporary opportunity is not limited to the geographic area. Board and lodging and relocation expenses do not apply.

      *These locations are eligible for Isolation Allowance.

      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

      Travel throughout the province will be required.
