- Must be knowledgeable of all sports including but not limited to: basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, and/or baseball
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Must be able to walk, run, crouch, and stand for long periods of time in order to officiate games
- Must be able to communicate with others effectively and professionally
- Must be energetic, enthusiastic, motivational, and have strong human relation skills
- Required to inspect sporting equipment and/or participants in order to ensure safety
- Must be open minded, honest, composed, and fair; able to make calls and teach/explain game rules when necessary
- Must be dependable and prompt, mindful of game times and locations to ensure games start and end on time.
- Must have a clear understanding of the YMCA and its mission to deliver a good quality program for the youth and parents
- Must attend provided training courses including first Aid/CPR, Child Abuse Awareness, and other trainings as outlined by the YMCA
The YMCA is currently taking application for energetic, confident, and friendly staff to work in the sports department as Sports Aides. The Sports Aide is responsible and willing to uphold the Sports Official Code of Conduct and enforce the rules of play. He/She is the sole representative at many of the YMCA games, and is to take & maintain control of the games at all times. The candidate is responsible for calling the game as fairly as possible and will make calls on a deemed needed basis. These decisions should be made quickly and with the best of his/her ability. The officiating skill level will be determined by the YMCA sports staff but a general working knowledge of the sport to be officiated is required of all officials.
Days and Hours
Mostly Saturdays and some weeknights
Schedule varies depending on the number of leagues and teams
