- Plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating sports lessons for all levels of participants.
- Keep current with industry trends and new class formats.
- Provide high-level front-line customer service including greeting and engaging participants.
- Communicate with participants regarding safety awareness and accident prevention.
- Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency.
- Supervise and mentor volunteers and assistants.
- Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. attendance, incident/accident reports, opening and closing procedures)
- Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately.
- Report all concerns, accidents, and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action.
- Maintain an understanding of department programs and services.
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce University and Departmental Policies & Procedures, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
- Attend meetings/training as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Availability to work approximately 4-12 hours per week, Monday – Thursday, between the hours of 4:30-8:30pm (please note that available work fluctuates with program registration).
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience in related sport such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, multi-sports, flag football (please highlight).
- 1 – 2 years coaching/instructional experience preferred
- Experience and/or desire to work with children and youth in a recreational setting
- Excellent people skills and a friendly, responsible, service-oriented attitude
- Effective communication and able to work well within a team atmosphere
- Interest in and willingness to learn new technical skills, develop personal soft skills, and concepts in science, technology, outdoor education or sports
- Able to solve problems effectively and adapt to the changes typical to running programs for youth
- Candidates must obtain First Aid/CPR Level C and a vulnerable sector police clearance prior to beginning
- Successful completion of all Brock University and Sport training (e.g. AODA, WHMIS, content specific, challenge course, risk management)
- Knowledge of various sport rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of general Brock Recreation procedures.
- Ability to work evenings
- Excellent ability to deal with people.
- Good time management and organization skills.
- Maintain staff training provided and attendance at staff meetings.
- The ability to work in a team environment.
- The ability to work independently.

Job Description
Brock Recreation will offer on-campus sports instructional programs to community members. The goal of each sport program will be to introduce and teach the fundamental movement skills of various sports being offered. Participants will learn the basic technical skills of each sport through instruction and game play.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Instructors hold an important role with the sports programs, being role models and coaches for our participants! The sports instructor is responsible for maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment while creating meaningful and fun experiences for all participants. Sports programs can range from child/youth ages (3-13) to potentially adults (ages 18+). Instructors are responsible for facilitating high quality and engaging instructional programs and should be able to deliver programs in multiple sports.
