      The Spring 2025 internship program will run from approximately January 2025, through May 2025. Interviews will be held in-person and/or virtually.

      You must be ready and willing to commit 2 - 4 days a week (Minimum 15 hours for Spring internship) or as per your supervisor and/or business need.

      $18 - $21 an hour - Salary is compensable with work experience and education level.

      Program Overview:

      The Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) is offering an exciting professional work experience for enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate and graduate students who are Massachusetts residents or enrolled in an institution of higher learning in Massachusetts. This program will give students from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience in public service and gain additional skills in a medium that will help build lifelong attributes.

      Teamwork, organizational capabilities, problem-solving, and accountability are among the skillsets you will learn as part of a robust economy-based environment. As an EOED Intern, you will be at the forefront of an energetic, fast-paced, and ever-changing governmental atmosphere.

      The paid internship program will be a hybrid experience within the below list of agencies/divisions within EOED and the administrative offices like: Human Resources, Finance, Legal, IT, Customer Service, Insurance, and Communications:

      As an intern within our Secretariat, you will be provided with a wide array of responsibilities in areas included, but not limited to:

      • Human Resource Internship will assist with onboarding, administrative work, recruitment, training and engagement.
        • Preferred Skills/Qualifications
          • Ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of employee records.
          • Update training calendar and attendance records.
          • Preparing new hire paperwork and reviewing resumes for requisitions.
      • Community Program Spring Intern will assist with reviewing contract documents for accuracy, helping develop, maintain, and track the contracting process, and reviewing contract payments for accuracy.
        • Preferred Skills/Qualifications
          • Intermediate to advanced quantitative skills, demonstrated through Excel/spreadsheet expertise.
          • Basic understanding of financial concepts. Familiarity with Adobe and data/graphical presentation. Understanding of local government and non-profit functions.
          • Academic backgrounds includes social sciences (political science, economics, sociology, history), urban planning, communications, business, architecture, civil engineering, design.
        • Massachusetts Office of Business Development Intern will assist MOBD team with research on business development initiatives, state programs, and economic trends.

        • Preferred Skills/Qualifications
          • Coursework in business, public administration, economics, or related field
          • Help manage inquiries from businesses and provide information on state programs and resources

      • Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism will assist MOTT marketing team with tourism marketing promotion, program research, writing assignments, blogs or design projects, content research for MOTT social media accounts, visitma.com, and Massachusetts 250.org, and travel data research related tasks
        • Preferred Skills/Qualifications
          • Strong writing skills, graphic design experience, and excellence in Microsoft Excel preferred.
      • Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment
        • Preferred Skills/Qualification :
          • Completed coursework in political science, public relations, business, global studies or related field
          • Strong analytical skills to understand data, identify trends, and provide detailed analysis
          • Experience/students in marketing, graphics design, communication, hospitality, tourism, economic development and other practices.
      • Small Business Development Office Internship will support ongoing initiatives and special projects aimed at enhancing small business growth and development in the community.
        • Preferred Skills/Qualifications
          • Spanish/Portuguese preferred
          • Assist small business owners in navigating resources and services offered by the development office, including workshops, counseling, and funding options.
          • Coursework in business is preferred.
      • Division of Occupational Licensure (DOL) Consumer and Regulatory Affairs interns (On-Site) will perform customer service and administrative tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
        • Preferred Skills/Qualifications
          • Knowledgeable on regulatory procedures
          • Coursework in public relations, business management, legal studies, or related fields
      • Division of Insurance (DOI)
        • Health Care Access - Actuarial Intern
          • Prefer students in school for an actuary, mathematics, or related certifications
        • State Rating Bureau - Actuarial Intern
          • Prefer students in school for an actuary, mathematics, or related certifications
