- Provide analysis for Accounting management to determine financial liabilities and prepare appropriate accruals.
- Contributes to the execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes including completing reconciliations, preparation of journal entries, escalation, resolution of issues, and meeting all set deadlines.
- Perform variance analysis for assigned areas of responsibility and partners with corporate department leaders and other company personnel to ensure variances are adequately explained.
- Research and resolve the proper accounting treatment for transactions relevant to the assigned areas of responsibility in accordance with US GAAP and established company policy.
- Prepare and maintain schedules and supporting documentation needed for management, internal and external reporting, internal and external auditors, and SOX requirements.
- Assist in providing requested deliverables to the internal and external auditors in conjunction with quarter review and year-end audit processes.
- Understand the daily activities of the department and aid in coordinating and managing the period end close process to ensure daily and period goals and deadlines are met.
- Performs ad hoc analysis and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures as required.
- Monitor and improve accounting and reporting processes.
- Prepares expense accruals, reconciliations and explain fluctuations.
- Assist in the maintenance of Grocery Outlet’s hierarchy and chart of accounts as well as maintain a thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000 Annually

- Final compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance is required
- 5+ years of combined experience with Big 4 Public Accounting (preferred) and industry
- CPA is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of current US GAAP
- Strong MS Office/Excel skills and experience with an ERP system required (Oracle, SAP, MultiView)
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Professional Attributes/Work Ethic: strong communication skills (Oral and Written), detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, innovative, self-motivated, decisive, accountable, and committed to excellence and high standards
- Ability to work within tight deadlines to ensure the timely completion of the monthly close process
- Experience with an ERP system implementation is highly preferred
- Willingness to “roll up the sleeves” and dig hard for the right answers

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end General Ledger closing and financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have a solid finance/accounting background, in-depth knowledge of accounting principles, strong analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skills, and ideally a good understanding of retail business. Exceptional organizational skills are a must to meet tight deadlines of this role.
