Researches agency, carrier, and market information from published sources and company data bases. Partners with sales, agency and other sources to perform analysis and identify business trends and opportunities for profitable growth. May research issues in support of unit objectives and participate on committees or special projects.
Reviews individual risks for acceptability and handles those, within authority, based on carrier underwriting guidelines and standards. Uses critical thinking and understanding of the market and underwriting to assess the total risk proposition and alternatives for acceptability. Analyzes issues related to rules performance through automated systems.
Completes assigned underwriting and placement actions and tasks in a timely manner. Strives to complete all interactions in a first-time-final mode. Supervises the submission and process within established timeframes and expedites individual accounts when required. Meets overall timelines for project or team assignments. Identifies and recommends process improvements to increase efficiencies and improve customer experience.
Makes decisions to accept, modify or decline business based on underwriting analysis and judgment. Determines the proper classification of risks to the matching of price and product to the customer. Decisions may require review of additional variables and evaluation of exceptions. May perform quality assurance reviews from within the department to ensure acceptable decision making.
Plans completion of assignments to meet agreed upon timelines and service level agreements. Ensures coordination of own work with broader team and business unit priorities. Plans and coordinates project work and team accountabilities. Participates in goal planning to drive profitable growth within an assigned business unit.
Consults and collaborates with partners regarding risk and placement strategies. Uses brokerage placement acuity to recommend additional products, coverages and discounts to ensure the agency and customer receive maximum value and adequate coverage. May consult regarding risk mitigation strategies. Provides technical expertise to brokerage placement associates and agents. Provides recommendations to leadership for development or enhancement of products and/or coverage. May assist with the management of agency and carrier performance as part of the brokerage placement team.
Works cooperatively with leaders and peers and other departments to share information about business in process and initiate referrals. Partners to secure additional information required to secure the placement. Communicates with carrier’s functional departments relating to policy issues, rates, endorsements, corrections or changes. Provides clear communication of rationale for decisions and options.
Builds new and strengthens existing relationships to promote new business growth, profit, retention and service capabilities.
Responds to requests from agents and external carrier partners with resolution within established time and service agreements. Handles elevated customer service issues based on authority level. Routes issues outside of authority level to appropriate individuals within the team.
Participates in training classes, job shadowing, department and company meetings. Provides product education to agencies regarding carrier and program guidelines. May mentor and participate in training of less experienced associates. Helps develop or lead training design or delivery for the team. Identifies and communicates training needs and opportunities to leadership.

Candidates should have significant experience handling Excess & Surplus (E&S) insurance lines, preferably in a broker or underwriter capacity, in addition to a sales/production orientation. MGA or carrier experience strongly preferred.
This role can be based in a fully remote/work-from-home (WFH) capacity or in one of our offices, as long as the selected hire’s work hours align to the core hours of operations. Specifically, the regular work schedule is 8:00-4:30pm Eastern or Central (Monday through Friday), with a rotating requirement to work 9:30-6:00pm Eastern a few times each month.*Resident Property & Casualty and Surplus Lines licenses required within 90 days of hire.

As a Brokerage Placement Senior Analyst, you will provide the “running start” for the brokerage team on more complex insurance risks. Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Supervisor, Manager or Director. Individual contributor role.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration or related field of study; degree preferred.License/Certification/Designation: Pursuit of technical insurance coursework preferred. Property and casualty license required within 90 days of hire.
Experience: Three to five years of related insurance experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Solid understanding of brokerage placement programs and sophisticated placement techniques. Understands and adheres to state specific statutes involving underwriting, applicable insurance laws and regulations. Has a good understanding of carrier products, market conditions, pricing and marketing techniques. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills are key to present information to all levels of internal and external contacts. Ability to train and develop less experienced associates. Key competencies include: product acuity, functional/technical skills, command and consultation skills, interpersonal savvy, negotiating, problem solving, drive for results, managing and measuring work, customer focus, and decision quality. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
