Job Summary
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a MID-TERM (12-24 months ahead) point-of-view on transmission congestion to manage Luminant’s risk and uncover speculative opportunities in forward Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) and related markets. While the Transmission desk also engages in day-ahead and real-time activity, this role’s core deliverable is a forward-looking forecast that informs hedging and trading decisions one to two years before delivery.Job Description
Key Accountabilities
• Develop mid-term congestion forecasts using fundamental models, with monthly granularity extending out to 24 months.• Apply advanced data science techniques—including large-scale feature engineering, machine learning, and Monte Carlo simulations—to build robust Point-of-View (POV) forecasts under uncertainty in load, generation buildout, retirements, and transmission topology.• Integrate POVs into forward CRR/FTR auction strategies, aligning hedges with node-to-hub basis risk for Luminant’s generation portfolio (nuclear, coal, gas, renewables).• Identify and propose speculative CRR trades across one- to two-year forward strips, informed by model outputs and market conditions.• Translate model insights into actionable trade recommendations (buy/sell/hold) for Trading, Origination, and Development teams.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Grid Optimization, ERCOT Fundamentals, ERCOT Operations, Power Trading & Structuring, and Wholesale Markets—to ensure consistency between mid-term forecasts and short-term trading and plant offer strategies.
Education, Experience, & Skill RequirementsKey Metrics:
• Model reliability: produce automated model that deliver reliable forecast results timely for each CRR/FTR auction.• Forecast accuracy: back-testing forecasts against realized outcomes and refining assumptions to improve 12-24 month forecasting accuracy.• R & D: research new methodologies, tool-building, or investigate new market drivers.#LI-ND1
