- Bachelor degree in physics, chemistry, engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years of relevant experience with lithium batteries and/or battery systems
- Graduate degree in electrical engineering, physics, chemistry or other battery related discipline
- Fundamental knowledge of lithium ion cell design, electrical characterization and models, capacity and resistance degradation characterization and models.
- Experience with lithium battery cell design or cell selection/procurement from third party cell providers
- 4+ years of experience with management of battery test data, and using one or more common database and scripting tools (Python, R, AWS, database design
- Knowledge of lithium battery hazards
- Functional understanding of Battery Management Systems
- Interdisciplinary knowledge of battery systems (thermal, structural, mechanical, electrical, electrochemical)
- Familiarity with common cell and battery testing equipment (Arbin, Maccor, Neware)
- Strong analytic and problem solving skills

This is a Sr. Battery Engineer role which is focused on battery cells used in our current and next generation designs that power Project Kuiper's Low Earth Orbit satellites. In this role you will focus on cell design/selection, cell testing/qualification and overall roadmap for future cells used in our satellite batteries.

Key job responsibilities
You will be a member of a strong interdisciplinary team of battery engineers working on developing satellite batteries packs from a variety of secondary battery technologies (cells etc). You will be a subject matter expert in the area of lithium batteries and battery data, both at at the cell level and at the pack level. You will use your expertise in lithium battery systems to drive the team strategy on battery data (what, where, why, when, and how) while looking ahead to ensure the team is supporting the long term goals for Project Kuiper. You will also use your battery expertise to develop tools to review and interpret the data to support the development of software models, state estimators, pass/fail criteria in development, acceptance, and qualification testing, and failure/root-cause investigations. You will develop documentation and work with the flight software and system engineering teams to ensure the data can be used across the multiple teams that need it. You will support the test campaigns for the full battery system for design validation and and production verification, both at the individual component level and at the integrated vehicle power system.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
