      About this job

      The Senior Consultant, The CarMax Foundation & Community Relations, will play a pivotal role in advancing our community engagement programs. The Senior Consultant will execute Associate programs of The CarMax Foundation including CarMax Cares Month, Care Cards, and other company-wide initiatives. The position will also support the day-to-day execution of aspects of our volunteer team builder program and support the execution of local and national sponsorships and activations.

      What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

      • Plan and execute projects that support Associate participation in core programs of The CarMax Foundation including
        • CarMax Cares Month
        • Care Cards
        • Company-wide walks
      • Support the execution of large-scale volunteer team builders with KABOOM!, Points of Light, and other partners including event registration process and procedures, communications and managing attendee databases/rosters.
      • Support the sourcing and execution of onsite volunteer opportunities.
      • Support the activation and Associate involvement for community events, volunteer activities, and sponsorships.
      • Prepare and submit communications to support the execution of community relations programs and activities.
      • Submit requests and facilitate marketing and creative collateral as needed.
      • Utilize The Foundation’s integrated software platform and database to execute all aspects of programs the role supports as well as serve as back-up for other team members.
      • Respond on behalf of CarMax to various community, nonprofit, and events questions and inquiries.
      • Administer the day-to-day operations of our partnerships that support community and associate resiliency, including the CarMax Associate Disaster Relief Fund.
      • Represent CarMax and The CarMax Foundation to the nonprofit community, CarMax Associates, and the wider community as appropriate.
      • This role will work in a cross-collaborative environment to support the overall Community Relations and Foundation portfolio acting at the discretion of the Senior Manager Community Relations and Foundation, supporting the Manager, Community Relations and Foundation.

They will have experience working on a team, providing customer service, communicating to peers and others, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

      Qualifications and Requirements

      • Bachelors’ degree or equivalent experience
      • Minimum three years’ experience working in community relations, project management, or program administration.
      • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and compelling way for a variety of audiences.
      • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and support competing priorities.
      • Strong customer service skills.
      • Strong organizational and planning and execution skills.
      • Ability to identify and resolve issues potentially affecting programs or projects proactively and independently.
      • Ability to support set up for, attend and participate in outdoor community events and volunteer projects.
      • Availability to travel overnight and work some weekends or evenings to support community events and volunteer projects.
      • Ability to deal with uncertainty, complex situations and manage change effectively.
      • Passionate about CarMax’s community efforts and how it can impact the communities where our associates live and work.
      • Up to 10% travel required

      Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and have a Hybrid work arrangement

      Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.
