Job Description

- Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Plan, assign, monitor and manage the work of direct reports.
- Manage the preparation of all components of the annual Budget.
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, including the Chart of Accounts.
- Directs the preparation of all budget and actual monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, forecasts, budgets and cash flow reports.
- Compares revenue, expense and profit budgets/projections to actual figures to understand any operational variances of the Agency, for review by the CFO.
- Oversee the review and approval of expenditure and purchasing documents for availability of funding and compliance with Grant agreements and/or Agency Policies.
- Leads the annual review of the Finance Policies, providing copies for review by the CFO with sufficient time to meet the annual Board review date.
- Attend Department and Agency meetings and trainings as required.
- Works with the CFO to develop the timing plan (including periodic Board reviews) to support completion of the annual Budget.
- Coordinates the annual Financial Audit, Single Audit and 403(b) retirement plan audit, and act as the primary contact with the Auditors.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business is required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or a Master’s degree is preferred
- Five to seven years of experience in financial management, including two to three years supervisory experience is required.
- Experience working for a large not-for-profit Agency.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis, risk management and forecasting methods.
- A critical thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency working with Blackbaud Financial Edge Accounting Software.
- Ability to explain and communicate financial terms and complicated issues in clear, simple ways both in a written and verbal manner.
- Must have a valid driver license and the ability to travel between Agency locations.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills, and the ability to develop Human Capital and motivate others to achieve the Strategic Goals of the Agency.
- Familiarity with the way not-for-profit Agencies are structured and operated.

Reporting to the CFO, the Sr. Director of Finance is responsible for the budgeting and accounting operations of the Agency. This includes maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Agency’s reported financial results and to ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This position will also produce periodic financial reports and projections to assist the ELT with understanding the monthly operating results of Behavioral Health Services and Early Childhood Education, as well as to evaluate future risks and opportunities of the Agency.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Sr. Director of Finance oversees the budget, general accounting and Head Start fiscal staff members.
