- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent with strong emphasis on software: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
- 7+ years of Embedded Linux or RTOS (prefer both) development experience using C & C++
- 5+ years of developing and maintaining Git submodules for use in multiple projects over a sustained period of time
- 5+ years developing strategies in mitigation of legacy issues/technical debt
- 5+ years of addressing configuration management issues
- Development environment:
- Languages: C++, C, Python, Bash Shell
- Communication protocols: RS-232/485, Modbus, CANbus, I2C, SPI
- Operating systems: Embedded Linux and real-time operating systems
- Platforms: TI SoC, ARM, x86
- Integrated platforms: VS Code
- Version management: Git
- Build system: BitBake, Yocto, GitLab Pipelines
- Test: Device Simulation
- Controls Development: Design, maintain, and support thermal unit control firmware utilizing PID loops and other control strategies
- Requirements analysis: Requirements gathering, use case analysis, device and application prototyping, customer/customer-liaison engagement
- Project management: Project planning, task estimation, software metrics collection, version control
- Full lifecycle software application development: Design, programming, debugging, peer review, unit testing, performance tuning, integration
- Documentation: Program commentary, user guides for service and troubleshooting
- Product testing: Unit testing, bench testing, system integration testing, and field test support
- Leadership: Effective team member and/or lead engineer, consistent positive attitude, creativity
- Hardware development support: Software support for hardware development and testing
- Other tasks and activities as required by management
- Familiarity with MISRA or similar coding standard
- FreeRTOS Development
- Experience using JTAG/ARM SWD
- Experience with IAR or Keil IDEs
- MATLAB
- Linux kernel, device drivers, filesystems

Job Summary
We are seeking a Sr. Controls Firmware Enginee r candidate to support our thermal control applications. This candidate must have expertise in design and implementation of real-time or near real-time systems. The ideal candidate will be able to clearly advocate and implement design patterns that enhance firmware quality and shorten the firmware development cycle all while lowering platform maintenance costs. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent engineering experience as a firmware engineer is required.This position will be located onsite at Vertiv's Westerville, OH Academy or St. Louis, MO office location.
