      Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

      Location: Aurora, IL

      Summary of Job

      • Balance multiple projects concurrently using prioritization skills to effectively execute company strategy.
      • Work with customers, engineering team, vendors, product managers to identify needs and translate into products and/or processes, effectively meeting requirements for safety, performance, durability, and cost.
      • Perform full lifecycle equipment development including design, development, prototyping, manufacture, and launch. Work according to a stage gate for engineering projects including new products. Communication of development updates and results to stakeholders.
      • Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to further develop equipment.
      • Interface with field technicians to support ongoing equipment issues. Work closely with internal and external equipment builders related to BOM, running engineering changes, and value engineering initiatives.
      • Stay current with new and future technologies and software relevant to the existing platform and projected product direction. Advanced knowledge in beta testing, product selection, evaluating and choosing optimized technology to meet our future needs.
      • Designs, develops, prototypes, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
      • Develops specifications for new parts or prototypes. Identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products. Uses CAD software and other design and modeling tools to develop and improve parts and products. Conducts analysis and tests to determine weaknesses and failures in prototypes or machinery.

      Essential Functions and Responsibilities

      • 5+ years’ experience in an equipment design and build role.
      • Ability to showcase an array of equipment designed and taken to production that was accomplished by the ME.
      • Balance multiple projects concurrently using prioritization skills to effectively execute company strategy and priority.
      • Ability to develop project scope by collaborating with customers, sales, NPD, engineering team, vendors, product managers to identify needs and translate into products and/or processes.
      • During design, build and manufacturing effectively meet requirements for safety, performance, durability, and cost.

      Competency (Knowledge, skills, and abilities)

      • Experience with Equipment design, part design, drawing creation, tolerance analysis, FMEA, et.
      • Ability to work hands-on with projects in a research and development environment.
      • Problem solving mentality with ability to think creatively to troubleshoot machine issues, design constraints, and other roadblocks.
      • Familiarity with SolidWorks
      • Experience with firmware, software & electro-mechanical components is a plus.
      • Must be detail orientated, have strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize.
      • An initiative-taker with excellent communication skills.
      • Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to partner with internal customers.
      • Project Management experience is a plus.

      Education and Experience

      • 5 to 10 years’ experience in web handling, machine design, converting and/or automation
      • Prior experience in the packaging industry is a plus.
      • Electro-mechanical machine design preferred.
      • BS ME or equivalent demonstrated experience.
      • Proficient with AutoCAD Inventor

      Compensation

      The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis’ total compensation package. The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $120,000 - $150,000.
