- Petrophysical expertise with evaluating siliciclastic, carbonate and fractured reservoirs.
- Proven experience in unconventional shale gas/oil plays
- Responsive, expert technical petrophysical advice and service for Reservoir Development, Drilling, various asset, and regional exploration teams as well as for subsurface integrated project teams (“IPTs”) in an accurate and timely manner to support well evaluation planning, ongoing well operations, and petrophysical studies.
- Advanced petrophysical evaluations using software such as Interactive Petrophysics, Geolog.
- Reliable and timely information evaluation in support of well operations.
- Participate in the planning and execution of formation evaluation programs to optimize project team objectives, particularly as a member of integrated project teams;
- Coordinate wireline log post-processing and core analyses in support of well evaluations;
- Use of XRD/XRF, Kerogen/TOC calculation for mineralogy calibration for stochastic petrophysical models
- Knowledge of cement log evaluation and formation evaluation behind casing
- Perform in-depth well specific and regional petrophysical studies, integrating all core including GRI core data & log data.
- Perform administrative and operational tasks in an effective and efficient manner and contribute to the achievement of team goals and objectives.
- Participate in team and partner meetings, technical workshops, peer-assists, and peer reviews.
- Maintain active contact with professional societies; develop and maintain networks and relationships with key peers across the company and industry for idea-sharing and capability development;
- Capture any opportunities for new or improved technologies and share with the Petrophysics Team and the greater company geoscience community; and
- Mentor junior petrophysicists;
- Work effectively as a member of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision; and
- Continue to enhance key skill sets and competency through continued training and development.
- Contribute to well proposals and field development documents by assisting in the definition of well evaluation objectives; the petrophysical logging plan (tool strings, operational, etc.) necessary to deliver on those objectives in a cost-effective manner. Work closely with Subsurface and Drilling teams to assist in the definition and execution of work documentation.
- for wireline and LWD logging services. Monitor mudlogging, LWD, coring, and wireline log data acquisition. Review data at an early stage to identify any quality issues or re-acquisition requirements. This may include remote supervision via real-time viewing software in the office and/or by directly supervising these operations on the rig. Review and sign off on finalized well log data provision by service providers.
- Develop and maintain robust, consistent and defendable well log interpretations during development drilling operations. Utilize classical and thin-bed petrophysical techniques, incorporating Santos established integrated subsurface workflows, including integration into reservoir models and uncertainty quantification.
- Act as a petrophysical mentor, providing expert counsel and direction to other geoscientists and petrophysicists. Ensure the accurate application of specialized techniques in various studies and research projects. Mentor junior petrophysical staff and other members of the field reservoir development team to enhance their understanding of petrophysical related topics.
- Identify an internal professional development mentor and opportunities to gain exposure to greater project economics in order to best support business drivers for Santos projects. Remain up to date on the latest information on new petrophysical technologies and methods and recommend application of such technologies/methods relevant to seismic QI, 3D reservoir characterization and reservoir modeling activities. Seek out external coursework, workshops, or other opportunities to develop PPFG plot creation acumen in various depositional settings.
- Build and maintain accurate and comprehensive databases. Champion data stewardship within the reservoir development group. Create guidelines and standards for petrophysical database.
- Fully authorized to work in the US directly with any employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
- A minimum of 10 years of oil and gas industry experience working as a Petrophysicist with a variety of petrophysical operations and reservoir characterization experience.
- Previous experience as a logging engineer or significant operational experience is preferred.
- Experience performing detailed petrophysical evaluations of clastic reservoirs, including interpretation of open & cased-hole wireline logs, LWD, and full-spectrum integration of core and log data;
- Basic understanding of the matrix lithological components, clay content, kerogen content, and maturity level (the organic geochemical evaluation) is required to derive reasonable ranges in key volumetric parameters such as the porosity, hydrocarbon saturation and net reservoir thickness.
- Knowledge of Crushed rock methods (e.g. Tight Rock Analysis (TRA), Gas Research Institute (GRI), Source rock evaluation techniques (e.g. Rock Eval, Leco).
- Familiar with geochemical analysis as Pyrolysis to determine Vitrinite reflectance (%Ro), Thermal Maturity and Total Organic Content (TOC)
- Able to integrate this data, with well Mud gas data in combination with inorganic geochemistry data from X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to determine the organic matter quality (Kerogen type I, II or III) to estimate if the formation will be capable to generate a significant number of hydrocarbons.
- Experienced with interpretations/integration of the mechanical properties (core and e-logs) of the reservoir (Fracture Toughness, Brittleness, Fracability, etc).
- Experienced conducting reliable rapid formation evaluations in support of both exploration and well operation development using modern logging tools such as Wireline & LWD
- Managing quality control of field log data.
- Planning well evaluation programs, using wireline log data for post processing and core analysis programs as well as for well post-audit report writing;
- Experience using Special Core Analysis Laboratory (“SCAL”) and engineering applications.
- Experience with formation evaluation in horizontal wellbores and evaluating carbonate and fractured reservoirs.
- Fluent English, with the capability to communicate verbally and in writing with good presentation skills.
- Proactive team player within a multidisciplinary team, engaging with other team members.
- Candidates must be available to reliably commute to the office as needed during the week.
- Position does not include relocation assistance.
- Compressed work schedule (9/80) and teleworking may be available at the discretion of the business leader.

Repsol is hiring a Senior Petrophysicist to join the Technical E&P Excellence Center, repo rting to the Unconventional Subsurface Sr Manager. The Technical E&P Excellence Center is a multidisciplinary team of technical knowledge professionals who provide support to Repsol projects across the globe. Position will be based out of our US Headquarters located in The Woodlands, Texas, requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Geoscience, Science or a related engineering discipline, and at least 10 years of experience working as a Petrophysicist in oil and gas exploration upstream operations.
Summary
The Sr. Petrophysicist is responsible for providing petrophysical technical direction to the Reservoir Development Team, various teams within our assets, and regional exploration departments, among others. Duties will be centered around the independent generation of complex technical petrophysical analysis and integration of the results with other sub-surface disciplines. This specialized knowledge professional position relies heavily on an advanced level of knowledge of a broad range of the global organization’s guidelines which are followed to determine and implement processes and procedures, which can only be acquired through previous such experience with an affiliated entity.
