- This Sr. Principal Engineer – Calibration and Metrology role will be part of the Engineering Tech Center organization. The ETC is responsible for ensuring the safe and economically effective delivery of compliant manufacturing, research, and administrative facilities for Lilly worldwide.
- This position will own and be responsible for the overall calibration program for Lilly. This position will own all engineering standards (e.g. EFS-2102), best practices, procedures and program documents associated with the calibration program.
- This position will supplement site instrument/calibration resources to ensure the calibration requirements, practices and expectations are met.
- This position will also partner with instrument engineers in ETC and at sites to deliver instrumentation that fit into the calibration program in an effective and efficient manner.
- This position will network outside to stay current on industry practices and introduce new technology for calibrations into Lilly at the right pace
- The position will lead the community of practice for Calibration topics across Lilly as a whole (including groups such as M&Q, Development, Facilities management)
- The position requires cross functional interaction with both internal (Lilly) and external (contractor) groups.
- Own and be the subject-matter-expert on the content of Engineering Functional Standard EFS-2102, engineering best practices in the Calibration field, engineering master specifications relating to instrument data/information, and engineering guidance documents relating to this field.
- Fulfil the role of SME in any exceptions or proposed alternatives to the strategies and expectations outlined in those documents.
- Assist sites in implementing improvement actions in the calibration field. Partner with other metrologists and those working with instrumentation to ensure the program has proper technical depth and breadth going forward.
- Develop improved methods for calibrations, including introducing new technologies.
- Become expert on how calibrations work inside of GMARS, becoming knowledgeable on how the GMARS system operates/functions with calibration tasks.
- Own and facilitate the Community of Practice for people in the calibration field inside Lilly. Assist those community members on best practices, and ways to improve on execution when asked.
- Ensure connection to key external policy makers, practitioners, and influencers in the calibration field are made and kept up to date. Communicate the impact of key external marketplace changes as they occur.
- BS in Engineering (disciplines typically found in pharmaceutical manufacturing and in the automation/instrument field preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the calibration, metrology, or instrument engineering fields.
- Experience as an instrument engineer or practitioner in a calibration program
- Knowledgeable of data integrity requirements and concepts
- Familiarity with Maximo software program and the Lilly GMARS system
- Understanding of decision science concepts and can provide structure to decision making.
- Familiarity with MS SharePoint configurations (i.e. Lilly NOW sites).
- Demonstrated knowledge with guidance from industry on the topic of calibration.
- Ability to work with diverse perspectives and to identity and resolve issues with minimal direction.
- Must have creditability and be influential in getting agreement amongst leadership.
- Must have demonstrated a consistent level of successful performance.
- Proven flexibility in adapting and adjusting to changes in working practices
- Must possess strong business acumen, with an awareness of the life cycle cost evaluation processes as they apply to equipment and systems.
- Must be able to frame complex decisions/analyses.
- Must have demonstrated good written and verbal communications.
- Must have the ability to lead groups including internal and external resources
- Must be willing and able to challenge others within Lilly value structure.
