      Job Description

      Stepan is hiring a Sr. Process Engineer to join out team at the Northbrook, IL office. This position will provide process engineering leadership for Forward Engineering and Capital projects throughout Stepan from feasibility through design, delivering cost effective process engineering services to the customer while ensuring HSE, operational, and financial targets are achieved.

      Job Responsibilities:
      • Ensure the safe design and application of plant and equipment in line within internal and legislative requirements (site and corporate policies/procedures)
      • Ensure that the appropriate maintenance/process safety information is accurately provided and stored to provide compliance with legislative requirements (PSM. etc.)
      • Promote an environment that achieves incident free performance through diligent proactive safety efforts and job safety planning.
      • Use Front End Loading (FEL) to Define and Scope projects using Stepan Global Engineering Project Delivery System (GPDS)
      • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and confirm project charter or business premise
      • Develop options to address anticipated needs and complete Preliminary Process Engineering including Process Design Basis, Process Flow Diagrams, Heat and Material Balances, Equipment List, and Process Control Strategy
      • Specify equipment and develop process datasheets
      • Responsible for required Hazard Reviews.
      • Process Engineering Leadership of capital projects within financial and time constraints for Global Capital projects.
      • Complete the Process Design and Deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams, Heat and Material Balances, P&IDs, PHA, Equipment List, Line List, Instrument List, and Process Control Strategy
      • Manage the process engineering activities of contract engineering firms during project execution.
      • Complete the technical scope definition, process design sheets & drawings to be used in technical bid packages and internal projects
      • Evaluate and approve technical proposals from engineering services firms and equipment vendors.
      • Provide on-site and remote support through the entire project lifecycle, coordinating start-up responsibilities with plant personnel
      • Lead efforts in reviewing, critiquing, and recommending best practices that will improve on delivering the most cost efficient and timely projects.
      • Complete projects within the AFE budget, on time as defined when submitting the AFE and to the objectives stated in the project justification.

      Qualifications

      • 5+ years in the role of Process Engineer
      • Substantial Chemical process experience, including organic chemistry
      • Possess an excellent understanding of chemical plants and processes
      • Ability to Define and Scope projects
      • Work in a team environment
      • Process Modelling and Simulation
      • Experience with Gated Work Processes
      • Travel 25-50%

      Education

      • Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering

      Pay Range: $84,000 - $113,000
      The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
