Basic Function
We are currently seeking to fill a position at LyondellBasell’s Bayport Polymers site located 27 miles east of Houston, TX. Our Bayport site has approximately 316 employees and contractors and is a world class chemical manufacturing facility with 4 operating units producing Polypropylene (PP) resins. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a degreed engineering professional assigned within the site’s Operations organization.
The Process Engineer will focus on strategic initiatives necessary to improve the long term viability of all the BYO production lines. This includes but is not limited to identifying quality, reliability, efficiency, and work system opportunities, prioritizing based on value, scoping, and driving implementation via capital or expense project. The Process Engineer will provide technical troubleshooting support for issue(s) that have exhausted the Production Engineer’s and/or Specialist’s knowledge, and provide long term solutions for temporary improvements implemented by the Production Engineer and/or Specialist. The Process Engineer will play a significant role in defining the unit Process Operating Window (POW) via PHA, alarm rationalization, quality issue resolution, process troubleshooting, etc., and implementing means to monitor.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Troubleshoot and problem-solve advanced process problems
• Assist on complex issues requiring technical support beyond Production Engineer(s) & Specialist(s)
• Collaborates with the Global Process Design, Capital Projects, and Product Development groups to ensure long term viability of BYO and shared learnings with LYB as a whole
• Contribute in a team environment & establish work relationships with onsite & offsite resources
• Coach less experienced engineers, as well as provide technical training to others
• Provide technical expertise in risk reduction, site performance improvements, and value creation activities (e.g., PHA, MOC, PSV calculations, Safety Critical Equipment/Variables, Incident Investigations, PIFs, benchmarking gap closure, VEP, etc.)
• Knowledgeable of relief system, relief valve, design and evaluations
• Maintain strong safety and environmental compliance focus
• Continued personal development of Spheripol & Catalloy process knowledgeMin. Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering
• Demonstrated corporate competencies
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and techniques
• Good computing skills
• Demonstrated ability to mentor & coach others in all directions of the organization
• Demonstrated knowledge in Process Design Packages and related economics#LI-CB1
Preferred Qualifications
• BS degree in Chemical Engineering
• 6+ years industry experience with 3+ years in polymer processes
• Process modeling experience
• Advanced technical understanding of unit processes
• Knowledgeable in the HSE/PSM regulations & Operational Excellence guidelines/ProceduresCompetencies
