- Develop press releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, proactive media pitches, and articles to share through various communication channels.
- Collaborate with other Marketing & Communications team members to ensure cohesive and consistent messaging across all platforms.
- Respond promptly to media inquiries and needs, ensuring availability on an on call basis for urgent matters.
- Coordinate interviews and photo shoots involving Health First associates and media representatives.
- Assist in the distribution, placement, and tracking of media coverage.
- Support crisis communications alongside the System Director, Media & Public Relations, and other team members.
- Utilize information technology such as market research and digital tools to support public relations strategies.
- Oversee content creation and management for published materials.
- Establish and uphold best practices for public relations efforts.
- Develop comprehensive public relations campaigns and initiatives in partnership with internal teams.
- Collaborate on website content creation and maintenance.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by management.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, advertising/public relations, or a related field.
- Work Experience: Five years of progressive experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, media relations or a related field.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Proficient in marketing principles and strategies.
- Strong writing, editing, and interviewing skills, with a focus on Associated Press style.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) and Adobe Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a team-oriented mindset.
- Strong project management skills are preferred.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients, families, and associates.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated professionalism, judgment, and tact in interactions with others.
- Ability to meet the needs of diverse customers with creativity and credibility.
- Strong focus on achieving personal, departmental, and organizational goals.
- Work Experience: Seven years of progressive experience. Experienced in healthcare or academic medicine.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- In-depth working experience with print and broadcast media.
- Published writing experience, such as feature articles, Op-Eds, and advertorials.
- Experience writing video scripts.
- The majority of time is spent sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, or stooping.
- Long periods of computer use.
- Light physical work may involve lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Possible exposure to various indoor environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or moderate noise levels.
- Requires frequent communication and information exchange with others.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination required.
- Workspace may range from open to confined, on-site or remote work.
- Regular travel to Health First facilities or other locations, requiring the use of a personal vehicle.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Public Relations Specialist is responsible for developing and managing innovative, cost-effective public communications strategies for Health First and its affiliates, with a primary focus on public and media relations. This role establishes and nurtures media relationships, coordinates communications for key events and initiatives, and serves as a media liaison. The Specialist proactively generates story ideas and responds to media inquiries quickly and accurately, maintaining Health First’s reputation for timely and transparent communications.
