      Job Summary

      Patterson Companies is seeking a Senior Technical Accountant to advance the capabilities of our Accounting and Finance function. This role will focus on accounting research, financial reporting and functional best practices. This role will collaborate with the broader Accounting and Finance organization to ensure strong controls and accurate reporting for Patterson.

      Essential Functions

      Technical Accounting Research

      • Review new accounting pronouncements and lead implementation of required new accounting policies and procedures

      • Document and maintain key accounting policies

      • Develop and lead accounting training and guidance for department

      • Support nonrecurring transactions with sound technical and operation accounting support

      • Serve as a liaison with internal and external auditors with regard to policies and procedures over technical accounting matters

      Financial Reporting and Accounting Close

      • Assist with external reporting, including preparation of cash flow statement and management’s discussion and analysis

      • Lead sub-certification or other affirmation processes related to financial statement and footnote preparation

      • Perform review of footnote tie outs for completeness and accuracy

      • Lead all accounting procedures regarding Patterson’s cost and equity method investments

      • Perform goodwill and intangible asset impairment analyses

      • Other tasks as needed to ensure accurate and timely monthly and quarterly accounting close

      Process Improvement

      • Review and assess current procedures for efficiency gains, recommending improvements and proactively leading implementation efforts

      • Implementation and ongoing administration of Blackline and other financial tools

      Job Qualifications

      Required Qualifications

      • Undergraduate degree in Accounting

      • CPA preferred (active or inactive)

      • Background in public accounting or SEC reporting preferred

      • 4+ years of experience

      • Previous experience with SAP preferred

      • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills

      • Attention to detail is critical to this role

      • Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

      • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements a plus

      Physical Demands

      • Operating a computer or other office devices for the majority of the workday

      • May occasionally need to move packages up to 10 pounds such as office supplies or equipment

      • Must be able to communicate with others in person, over the phone, and in writing.

      • Must be able to understand and effectively exchange accurate information with others such as coworkers, customers and vendors

      • Must be able to read and interpret various electronic and written documents

      Environmental Factors

      • This position is in an office environment in which team members occupy desks in assigned areas or at meeting/collaboration spaces within the building. The building’s primary work areas consist of desks, chairs, computers and other office equipment and devices for professional services.
