      Overview

      The Mechanical Test Engineer must be skilled in the field of laboratory and field testing. The day-to-day activities will include projects involving test design, general instrumentation in a mixed sensor/ transducer environment, fixture development, data collection and analysis.

      Responsibilities

      Successful applicants will be able to work independently or in teams to define testing needs and approaches, develop specific test plans, execute test plans, collect and process data and write reports discussing all aspects of the testing effort.

      The engineer must be able to safely and effectively work in a technical environment where combinations of strain gages, pressure transducers, accelerometers, force transducers and displacement transducers may be used simultaneously. Manage and perform data collection and signal conditioning using both Stress Engineering proprietary systems as well as other commercially available systems. Time domain and frequency domain data analysis methods are used, as needed to reduce and analyze test results.

      Depending on the applicant’s experience he or she will be encouraged to take the initiative in managing projects, assigning and supervising work being carried out by colleagues.

      Qualifications

      • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Theoretical and Applied Mechanics with 10+ years of laboratory and/or field test experience
      • Experience with test measurement and control systems
      • Test experience should include knowledge/use of most mechanical testing laboratory instrumentation along with the required calibration procedures
      • Ability to understand engineering mechanics/physics to properly interpret test data generated
      • Hands-on capability to design, have manufactured then validate test fixtures
      • Experience developing test plans and evaluating/validating measured data to ensure reliable results
      • Ability to conceptualize and develop test fixtures and equipment and to interpret the data produced is required
      • Experience creating, and documenting test cases and test procedures is required
      • Strong technical writing ability
      • Highly motivated, self-starter
      • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills required
      • A registered professional engineer or willingness to obtain license (required)
