      Job Description

      Georgia Tech Research Institute's Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) seeks a student assistant to join our Sensor Systems Engineering Division (SSED) for Summer 2024. Students will assist Research Engineers in various engineering tasks. Students should be interested in learning about mechanical design, mechanical modeling, rapid prototyping manufacturing.

      Due to the nature of the work at GTRI, job duties will depend upon contract and sponsor needs. Students could participate in the following projects/tasks:

      • Perform mechanical design and documentation using 2D and 3D modeling tools
      • Perform mechanical measurements, component selection, and more significant prototyping
      • Support assembly, and fabrication of test fixtures
      • Assembling and wiring custom modules and chassis
      • Assist engineers with creating supporting technical documentation

      Required Minimum Qualifications

      Intern

      • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field
      • 2.0 or higher GPA
      • Full-Time Intern- Must be registered for Full-time Internship Credit
      • Part-Time Intern– Must be registered for 6+ credit hours

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Knowledgeable with 3D CAD design and modeling software such as Solidworks
      • Experience working with machine shop tools (drill press, CNC, 3D printing, etc)
      • Component fabrication experience
      • Good written and verbal communication skills
      • Familiarity with office application including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
      • Ability to quickly learn new software applications and tools
      • The ability to work independently given tasks and departmental policies and guidelines
      • Have excellent written and oral communication skills

      Hours per Week

      20-40 hours per week

      U.S. Citizenship Requirements

      Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

      Clearance Type Required

      Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
