- Perform a wide range of skilled/technical/professional accounting tasks associated with the company accounting function requiring mastery of numerous technical policies, procedures and methods related to that function.
- Serve as back up to other senior accounting staff, and assist in training and overseeing the work of clerical accounting staff assigned to the function.
- Perform a variety of daily, weekly and monthly account balancing and reconciliation tasks.
- Perform standard account investigating and resolution of problems, and referring unusual problems to senior accounting staff as necessary.
- Enter a variety of financial data into the computer and manual files and journals, verifying amounts and allocating to proper accounts.
- Perform a variety of basic liaison functions with reinsurers, answering questions and investigating account problems and discrepancies, confirming and obtaining missing information.
- Assist in contract and vendor relationship management with stakeholders across the organization
- Assist in preparing various daily, weekly and monthly financial data on a direct or supportive basis.
- Confer regularly with supervisor and other accounting staff to plan and coordinate activities, exchange information, resolve problems, and the like.
- Assist the Director of Finance, Controller and Treasurer with special projects, such as testing applications to automate, accounting systems, compiling information for special reports, and the like.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other appropriate discipline, plus four to six years of relevant experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Broad base of basic knowledge and skills in standard accounting principles and methods & principles.
- Experience with computerized accounting systems, with some directly related experience in the specific function of the position.
- Good planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills providing the ability to work effectively with other company personnel, as well as agents, insureds, vendors and others outside the company.
- Proficient with PC applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Predominately sedentary office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required.
- The physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.

JOB SUMMARY
To perform a wide range of skilled technical as well as some professional accounting tasks associated with the company accounting function, such as investments, reinsurance, fixed assets, procurement/contract management, financial analysis and account reconciliation, involving both routine/clerical and skilled technical/professional accounting duties.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Minimal supervision is required from the Director of Finance, Controller or Treasurer, or other senior accounting members. Receives assignments and is monitored on a weekly or several times a month basis. Performs many routine duties without specific direction. Follows overall standard policies and procedures.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Direct supervision is required from the Accountant over subordinates within the accounting department if applicable. Assigns some straightforward, routine tasks and monitors assignments given and work methods and results frequently.
