- Lead the development of novel polymer formulations and additives for implantable embolization device and material applications.
- Perform polymer and monomer synthesis, characterize essential physical and chemical features of synthesized polymers
- Execute experimental studies to understand chemical and physical degradation pathways of polymeric biomaterials
- Serve as the subject matter expert in cutting-edge technologies and platforms used in polymer material formulation development
- Lead the design and execution of experiments to investigate the impact of formulation on the product characteristics and product stability, optimize and scale up prototype formulations to manufacturable processes, characterize product solubility, loading capacity, radioopacity, reaction rates, degradation rates, degradation by-products, biocompatibility and drug/solvent release profiles
- Design and conduct pre-formulation, formulation development and optimization to develop robust and scalable processes, transfer the developed processes to commercialization partners, as needed.
- Provide technical representation in cross functional teams for polymer formulation and processes, ensure strong teamwork and communication within the process development and manufacturing team as well as with project management, quality assurance, and external collaborators
- M.S. degree in Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Surface Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or applicable technical field (Ph.D. preferred)
- 4+ years’ experience in development of polymer formulations or medical device design & development and innovation experience
- Hands-on experience/knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE), formulation development and scale up, tech transfer, and collaboration with both internal and external collaborators
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, goal-oriented and strong self-motivation, capable of solving complex problems, and innovation capability
- Technical expertise or familiarity in the following: chemical synthesis, mechanical testing, biocompatibility testing, rheology, standard polymer characterization methods (GPC, NMR, DMA, FTIR, optical spectroscopy, etc.) and drug elution studies.
Work Flexibility: HybridThe Advanced Technologies and Innovation group at Stryker Neurovascular is looking for a Staff Polymer Chemist/ Engineer in Fremont, CA to identify, formulate and test new polymers and additives for biomedical applications including but not limited to implantable embolization devices. This individual will be responsible for leading the division’s efforts in evaluating and formulating novel polymer constructs and taking ideas from prototype to technology and product development.

$83,000.00 to $176,800.00 salary plus bonus eligible + Benefits (Health, Vision, Dental, 401K, Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Assistance Program, Wellbeing Program, Employee Stock Purchase Program). This information reflects the anticipated salary range for this position based on current national data. Actual minimum and maximum may vary based location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
