      About this opportunity:

      Cenovus is currently looking for a Staff Geologist to join our Conventional Development team located in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Sr Geology Manager, the Staff Geologist will work in a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the Rainbow and other Deep Basin assets. The successful candidate will be accountable for evaluating resource extents, establishing inventory for the long range plan and supporting active drilling operations. This individual will have the ability to work independently and prioritize projects to meet the strategy of the Conventional Development team.

      What you’ll do:

      • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of Geologists, Geophysicists, and Engineers to support capital program planning and execution.

      • Manage and guide drilling operations, which includes providing geosteering decisions in real time to ensure optimal horizontal well placement.

      • Utilize petrophysical workflows to calculate reservoir properties (Net Pay, Sw, HCPV, etc) (experience working with user defined equations is an asset).

      • Create geological mapping for high grading inventory, establishing drilling locations and refining long rang plans.

      • Evaluate business development opportunities such as acquisitions and divestitures, mineral land tenure expiries and crown land sale acquisitions.

      • Contribute to Cenovus’s subsurface community by participating in peer reviews, technical assurance and knowledge sharing events.

      • Generate new ideas and opportunities to develop resource in core operating areas.

      • Progress and support capital programs through technical reviews, regulatory approvals, well planning and post execution evaluations.

      Who you are:

      • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

      • B.Sc. Degree or higher in Geology.

      • A minimum of 10+ years of related industry experience.

      • Member of APEGA or another Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required.

      • Experience with a wide range of geoscience software (knowledge of Geographix and Petrel is an asset).

      • Understanding of carbonate depositional systems.

      • Drilling and operations experience.

      • Previous working experience in the Western Canadian Deep Basin is an asset.

      • Demonstrates the ability to understand and operate effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

      • Experience managing a mature property is an asset.

      • Waterflood experience is an asset.
