Job summary
At Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) every patient is special, which means every nurse who cares for them must be special too. Many of our patients are on long journeys to recovery, and so our nurses build strong relationships with them and their families.
This is a chance to specialise in respiratory medicine as part of a dedicated world-class team of consultants, nursing workforce, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and play specialists.
You'll be joining a large team across the two GOSH Respiratory Wards (Leopard and Kangaroo), which focuses on children and young people requiring respiratory medicine acutely and chronically. It has 23 beds, including a high-dependency unit (HDU), dedicated beds for children and young people with cystic fibrosis and transitional care beds for long term ventilated children and young people.
While experience in respiratory nursing is welcome, our patients have a variety of underlying medical conditions, including learning disabilities, so we welcome nurses from diverse disciplines.

Main duties of the job
To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centred care to the children, young people and families.- Ability to promote family centred care and establish good relationships with children and their families.- To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.- To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following achievement of required competence (excluding intensive care wards and non RN Child Registered Nurses).- To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for Compassion In Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012).- Contribute towards achieving the 'Great Ormond Street Hospital Vision for Nursing' .
