- Theoretical knowledge of molecular biology techniques and genetics, typically through a Bachelor's degree in biology or related field, or relevant lab experience.
- Ability to follow protocols, techniques, and instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with diverse populations, including persons from foreign countries, the business community, academia, students, and staff, demonstrating diplomacy, mature judgment, tact, and flexibility.
- Knowledge of proper formats, grammar, and spelling in English; proofreading skills; ability to document research procedures accurately and effectively present research materials.
- Experience with personal computer operation and software like Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Acrobat.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and share knowledge.
- Experience working on clinical trials.
- Experience with clinical microbiology techniques, including quantitative culture and PCR.
- Experience with laboratory information systems.
- Knowledge of safety practices and ability to follow safety and biohazard guidelines, maintaining records.
- Decision-making, problem-solving, and laboratory maintenance skills.
- Organizational skills for ordering supplies and maintaining records.
- Experience with UCSD ordering, EH&S, and business systems.

Description
The Department of Pathology at UC San Diego aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research, and education. The department provides diagnostic pathology services in various subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists recognized for their expertise. Its research programs are diverse and interface with basic and translational research that is a hallmark of UC San Diego.
Under supervision of the PI, we seek a research assistant to help with a project identifying bacteriophages that kill bacteria pathogenic in humans. Responsibilities include preparing media, laboratory organization, maintenance tasks, and conducting experiments with bacteria and bacteriophages.

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (prorated if less than 100%)
Hourly Range: $26.52 - $31.64
Factors affecting salary include experience, skills, education, certifications, and organizational needs. The referenced pay scale is the budgeted salary range.
