      $18 per hour
      Hours will be as needed

The Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM) is seeking reliable and professional Medical Scenario Participants to assist in the training and evaluation of future health care professionals. In this role, individuals are trained to portray patients in a standardized, consistent manner, simulating specific medical conditions, histories, and emotional states for use in medical education and assessment.

This is a flexible, as-needed opportunity with varying hours based on academic scheduling needs. You may be called upon multiple times per semester depending on program requirements.

      Responsibilities

      • Accurately and consistently portray patients with specific medical histories and emotional responses as trained for simulation activities.
      • Participate in student-led clinical scenarios including:
        • History taking and patient interviews
        • Physical examinations, including inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation
        • Osteopathic structural examinations and manipulative treatment (OMT) as appropriate
      • Provide feedback to students in a constructive, professional manner.
      • Complete evaluation checklists and documentation with accuracy and timeliness.
      • Accept coaching and feedback to improve performance.
      • Maintain communication and up-to-date contact information with the simulation team.

      Requirements

      • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
      • Experience: No prior medical experience required—training will be provided
      • Skills:
        • Ability to memorize and accurately portray medical scenarios
        • Willingness to be physically examined by students of all genders in an educational setting
        • Comfort with being audio/video recorded for educational review purposes
        • Basic computer skills and reliable access to email
        • Dependability, professionalism, and openness to feedback

      Additional Information

You will be required to sign a Confidentiality and Consent Agreement regarding participation in training and recordings.

      Why Join Us?

At Meritus, we believe in creating a collaborative, respectful, and welcoming learning environment. We offer:

      • A supportive and purpose-driven culture
      • Opportunity to contribute directly to the education of future health care providers
      • Flexible scheduling
      • Competitive pay
      • Inclusive team values and a "Happy to Help" mindset

What to Expect as a Medical Scenario Participant

      You will:

      • Be trained to portray a patient consistently, based on a detailed script and scenario.
      • Be examined by medical students, which may involve basic physical exams including touching, palpation, and movement of limbs.
      • Sometimes portray emotional or sensitive scenarios (e.g., a patient receiving bad news, dealing with stress or grief).
      • Be expected to give verbal or written feedback to learners about their communication, professionalism, and bedside manner.
      • Work on a flexible, as-needed basis — hours may vary and are based on the academic calendar and need.
      • Be in a clinical setting, often wearing a hospital gown or simulated patient attire, and time between sessions to complete evaluations.

This job may not be for you if:

      • You’re uncomfortable with being physically examined, including by students of any gender.
      • You prefer a consistent weekly schedule — simulation work is variable.
      • You’re unable to memorize scenario details or follow specific behavioral cues during roleplay.
      • You find it difficult to receive and apply performance feedback.

This job is a great fit if:

      • You’re reliable, flexible, and comfortable with performing or roleplaying.
      • You enjoy helping others learn and grow.
      • You want to contribute to medical education in a meaningful and hands-on way.
      • You’re open to learning new skills, including giving feedback and working in a team-oriented academic environment.
