      What to expect?

      As a StartUp Trainee Science you will join an expert team in the area of Cell Culture Development for viral vector based therapies.

      • The main objective of your work is to lead the media development as part of our global cell culture platform with the goal to implement high-performing cell culture media in our clinical and commercial manufacturing processes.

      • To achieve your goals you will develop and employ cutting-edge technologies supporting media development and cell characterization while you are supported by a global team.

      • As part of a global team, you will work closely together with colleagues from different sites of the Roche group.

      • In addition to an intense training-on-the-job you can foster your own development and your career by dedicated trainee seminars and workshops.

      • Development of a network through job rotations with global collaboration partners in Europe and the US and interaction with different interfaces and with current and former trainees.

      Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

      • You lead the media development towards a global media platform for the production of viral vectors using mammalian cell cultures.

      • You are responsible for the project strategy, progress and implementation of the developed media in the global cell culture platform for clinical and commercial manufacturing.

      • You coordinate, present and discuss your activities and outcomes in a global team being an integral part of the global cell culture platform team between Roche, Spark and Genentech.

      • You identify, evaluate, develop and implement suitable tools and approaches like using transcriptomics and further -omics to support media development and cell characterization.

      • You are driving further technology and innovation projects supporting the optimization of viral vector production processes.

      Who you are

      • A degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology or similar area holding a PhD

      • A strong background in media development for mammalian cell cultures, ideally in the field of AAV production, is necessary for this position.

      • In-depth knowledge on cell metabolism, cell biology, and cell cultivation and fermentation techniques.

      • Expertise in molecular biology methods like transcriptomics and -omics data interpretation.

      • You are characterized by your careful, independent and responsible way of working as well as your enjoyment of working in a team.

      • You foster collaborative and trusting relationships and enjoy working in an international environment.

      • Strong affinity for IT and data analysis skills.

      • Fluent English skills, written and spoken, are natural to you, German would be a plus.

      The duration of this trainee program is set for three years.
