      About the Unit

      Yara Belle Plaine is a world class producer of nitrogen fertilizer that contributes to Yara International’s mission to responsibly feed the world and protect the planet and the vision of a collaborative society, a world without hunger and a planet respected. Belle Plaine is located in Saskatchewan, Canada 50 km west of Regina on highway #1.

      Responsibilities

      The Static Mechanical Support Engineer is responsible for supporting the Area Maintenance Engineers, Static Mechanical Equipment Engineers, Static Mechanical Lead Engineer, mechanical supervisors and planners by providing engineering support for maintenance & reliability issues, turnaround engineering and capital projects. Experience is required with all static mechanical equipment including heat exchangers, piping, fittings, pressure vessels, tanks and structural materials. Troubleshoot plant equipment problems to minimize plant down time, reduce maintenance expenses and increase equipment availability.

      • Create & contribute to plant reliability initiatives such as predictive & preventative maintenance programs, Root Cause Analysis, etc.to increase plant reliability & optimize maintenance costs.
      • Create detailed engineering packages and provide engineering input for maintenance, turnaround & capital projects.
      • Provide engineering inputs & research materials, specifications and procedures for equipment maintenance & procurement as required. Liaison with external vendors, Yara’s central technical support & specialty service companies.
      • Develop scope, support planning/scheduling/supervise outage/turnaround activities.
      • Participate in risk assessment or HAZOP activities for projects, maintenance & turnaround activities.
      • Develop & review Safe Work Procedures, Critical Task Analysis,& Safe Job Analysis when required.
      • Attend and Cascade learnings and training from seminars, research and Central Yara Meetings to Maintenance department.
      • Stay current on repair and operation technologies in liaison with licence providers and technical experts.
      • Ensure engineering control (quality standards, code compliance, fit for use/ fit for service) for maintenance, project and turnaround activities.
      • Fill in for various Maintenance and Project Engineers positions as required.

      Education, Experience & Skill

      • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical / industrial engineering with eligibility of registration as an Engineer-in-training with APEGS.
      • 2+ years of experience in an industrial environment such as petrochemical, refinery or chemical plants in a maintenance environment.
      • Experience with piping and pressure vessel theory and application in the process industries, familiarity with governing codes. Exposure to failure analysis, root cause problem solving.
      • Excellent computer skills, Well developed organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
      • Experience delivering technical solutions in a group environment. Technical report writing including Root Cause Analysis, Inspection Reports, Reliability improvement recommendations, etc.
      • Candidate must be capable of interpreting engineering drawings and developing detailed engineering packages. Basic knowledge of Engineering standards such as API, ASME, ASTM & Saskatchewan Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act is an asset.
