Job Description

- Receives day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer at the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center (CRMHC).
- Makes rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical at regular intervals.
- Tests and records of water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water, chilled water systems and adds appropriate chemicals for proper maintenance of systems.
- Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services.
- Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
- Completes all mandatory training for Department of Human Services (DHS) and CRMHC for compliance with all regulations for Mental Health Centers.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight years elementary school.
- Requires four years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
- Requires possession or ability to obtain a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A.
- Stationary Engineer license Certificate for the City of Chicago.
- Requires ability to perform various tasks such as lifting and moving equipment/machinery up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Requires skill in the use of tools and equipment used in maintaining powerhouse equipment.
- Requires ability to handle chemicals in the maintenance of systems.
- Requires ability to utilize agency supplied equipment (i.e., cellphone, pager, etc.).
- Requires an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to travel.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center located in Chicago, Illinois to receive day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer. Installs, maintains, repairs, and monitors for proper operations the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) operational systems. Makes rounds of buildings’ boiler and mechanical at regular intervals. Tests and records of water used for consumption or for generating steam and hydraulic hot water, chilled water systems and adds appropriate chemicals for proper maintenance of systems. Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services. Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment. Travels in performance of job duties.
