      Position Overview

      The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois to receive day to day guidance and assignments from Chief Stationary Engineer. Maintains and repairs various mechanical systems and auxiliary and powerhouse equipment within Madden Mental Health Center. Makes rounds of buildings, mechanical rooms at regular intervals to assess the operation and efficiency of machinery and equipment to detect potential mechanical problems. Records tests of water for domestic water systems, mechanical closed loop hot water, chilled water systems and condenser tower systems, adds appropriate chemicals for proper maintenance of systems. Confers with tenant agencies that occupy space at Madden Mental Health Center to resolve problems related to building services.

      Job Responsibilities

      1. Receives day to day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer.
      2. Makes rounds of buildings' boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals to assess the operation and efficiency of machinery and equipment and to detect potential mechanical problems.
      3. Makes and records tests of water used for domestic water systems, mechanical closed loop hot water, chilled water systems and condenser tower systems and adds appropriate chemicals for proper functioning of systems and adds appropriate chemicals for proper maintenance of the systems.
      4. Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services.
      5. Observes and listens to the performance of various machineries to detect mechanical problems.
      6. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight (8) years of elementary school.
      2. Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low- pressure stationary boilers.

      Conditions of Employment

      1. Requires stationary engineer license certificate for the City of Chicago.
      2. Requires possession or the ability to obtain a valid (CFC) certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A.
      3. Requires the ability to perform various tasks such as lifting and moving equipment/machinery up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance).
      4. Requires an appropriate, valid driver's license and the ability to travel.
      5. Requires working rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
      6. Requires the ability to handle chemicals in the maintenance of systems.
      7. Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied equipment (i.e., cellphone, blackberry, pager, etc.).
      8. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
      9. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
      10. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
