      Job Summary

      Under the direct supervision of Drexel University's Mechanical Services department, responsible for the proper care, maintenance, repair, and operation of various building systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water treatment, automatic temperature controls, emergency power generators, fire alarm systems, fire protection systems, and utility distribution systems.

      Essential Functions

      • Under the direction of the Mechanical Services Supervisor and/or Chief Engineer, operate and repair equipment and complete work assignments and preventive maintenance in accordance with applicable building codes, accepted industry-standard practices, and all safety and regulatory requirements and directives
      • Adhere to all Drexel University EHS policies and procedures
      • Participate in shift coverage as required and perform related duties as assigned
      • Read and interpret technical documents including construction specifications, equipment technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, mechanical & electrical drawings, and process & instrument drawings
      • Install new equipment and replace faulty system components
      • Work, as directed, with management and recommend changes and/or modifications of existing building equipment and systems
      • Monitor the performance of new equipment during the project final inspection phase and warranty period to verify equipment operation
      • Attend all training deemed mandatory by the University
      • May be required to train an apprentice during Drexel’s participation in the I.U.O.E., Local 835 Apprenticeship Program.
      • Have a thorough understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the Drexel University students, faculty, staff and community.

      Required Qualifications

      • High School Diploma or GED
      • 5 Years of relevant experience
      • Possession of a current valid Universal Technician (CFC) Certificate as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F. (Note: Possession of a current valid Universal Technician Certificate is a condition of initial employment.)
      • Possession of a current valid City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade "A" license as required by the City of Philadelphia, Department of Licenses & Inspections. (Note: Possession of a current valid City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade "A" license is a condition of initial employment.)
      • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Trade related vocational/technical school certification and five (5) years of verifiable journey-level experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of major mechanical systems and related equipment in a large commercial, industrial, governmental building or institution

      OR

      • Successful completion of a State-approved Stationary Engineer Apprenticeship Program that includes the maintenance, repair, and operation of major mechanical systems and related equipment in a large commercial, industrial, governmental building or institution.
