      Overview

      Come grow your career with M Health Fairview at our University of MN West Bank Location! We are looking for candidates that are interested in training in our sterile processing department. This is a full time, benefit eligible role. Our next class begins in the fall. Once schooling and training are complete, you will be working overnights.

      The Sterile Processing Trainee program is a formalized training program developed to provide hands-on training to students in St. Paul College's Sterile Processing Class. The program will develop trainees' skills to the level of a Sterile Processing Technician. The program has an estimated length of 14 weeks; the first four weeks consist of both classroom instruction as well as onsite training at a Fairview location. The remaining weeks continue onsite training to meet the 400-hour work requirement. Upon completion of the program, the trainee will be eligible to apply for an Instrument Tech/Central Processing Center Tech or Central Processing Aide position.


      Responsibilities

      Job Expectations:

      In the Sterile Processing Trainee role, the trainees will perform Sterile Processing duties while completing studies and working towards certification, within limits of current training; work will be supervised by a supervisor at the assigned hospital location. This will include the following:

      · Ensures instruments are available and ready when needed; Completes Sterility Check points on instruments assembled and shipped; Distributes instruments to the accurate surgical case and hospital site; Transports instruments and supplies between processing areas.

      · Maintains OR Sterile Stores and specialty service instrument inventory

      · Cultivates a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.

      · Cleans and disinfects utensils and instrumentation. Assembles instrument procedural (floor) trays for use at the patient bedside, x-ray, emergency room, outpatient settings and clinics, operate mechanical equipment for washing, disinfecting, drying and sterilizing devices by following all manufacturer instructions for use (IFU’s).

      · Provides continuous quality improvement techniques during the reprocessing of materials before distribution to user areas.

      · Proficiently communicates to all levels of the medical profession through telephone conversations, email or in person.

      · Responds to emergency supply/instrumentation requests.

      · Collaborates with others to achieve a team environment

      · Knowledge of medical terminology or prior healthcare experience
