Work closely with various stakeholders to develop and manage stewardship strategies for Primary Gift donors.
Develop initiatives to recognize the philanthropy of McGill’s top donors (Under the JMC brand and for Primary Gifts).
Manage stewardship of the James McGill program and Primary Gifts and participate in regular assessments to ensure appropriate implementation of donor recognition and individual stewardship programs that will deepen donor engagement and strengthen relationships between the University’s high-level donors and McGill. Evaluate the effectiveness of personalized stewardship programs based on feedback and utilize this information to improve stewardship initiatives.
Develop and implement university-wide comprehensive stewardship strategies for high-priority donors. Collaborate in a proactive manner with various Faculty and University Advancement partners to secure consistent and strategic engagement across the units. Ensure cultivation and stewardship activities are aligned with university-wide strategies and stewardship standards. In collaboration with multiple units, ensure the proper and timely utilization of gifts.
Act as a point person for JMC members when interfacing with the University and with University Advancement. Build effective relationships with members that are reflective of their deep commitment to and connection with McGill.
Assist with the development and implementation of a JMC program communications strategy, including correspondence to all members, small groups, and individuals. Draft communications as needed.
Manage a detailed tracking system for donor communication preferences and see to the proper implementation of these preferences. Plan and carry out special occasion communications.
Liaise with the Director, Corporate and Individual Giving and the Director, Foundation Relations and Strategy to establish appropriate and tailored JMC and/or Primary Gifts communications to corporate contacts as well as family, community and corporate foundation partners.
Provide JMC members with timely, accurate, consistent and appropriate information and recognition by tracking and communicating University news and highlights such as senior staff appointments, accolades, significant research advances, and transformational gift announcements.
Conduct regular audits to ensure JMC members are receiving timely impact communications and liaise with partners in Donor Relations and Faculty-based colleagues to institute these communications and activities, as needed.
In collaboration with the Primary Gifts team and Alumni Communities, assist with stewardship aspects of the regional engagement strategy for JMC donors.
On an ongoing basis, review donation and donor information and carry out new member inauguration for donors newly exceeding $1M in cumulative giving. Plan and prepare induction letters and organize the distribution of membership packages.
Ensure the JMC donor wall is maintained to the highest standards and updated as necessary.
Participate in the ongoing maintenance and development of the Stewardship Profile as well as codify stewardship obligations and opportunities in collaboration with Advancement Services. For projects relating to primary gifts stewardship, manage the mapping of requirements, testing, and evaluation of deliverables and act as the primary point person for Donor Relations when collaborating with the systems development group.
Perform related duties.
Directly relevant experience in an academic/higher education, foundation, or charitable organization. Demonstrated understanding of the advancement field.
Proven experience working with donors and managing complex projects and programs.
Results-driven, a self-starter, and highly motivated, with a demonstrated ability to build constructive and effective relationships.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven focus on stakeholder engagement with strong verbal and written presentation and communication skills.
Advanced ability to effectively plan, organize, establish priorities, negotiate and problem solve.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple projects within tightly prescribed timetables. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to work in a PC environment, using MS Office, and client-server database software.
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3-4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

Position Summary:
In support of McGill’s development mission and under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Donor Relations, the Stewardship Officer acts as the principal stewardship resource for Primary Gifts and the point-person for the James McGill Circle (JMC) program. The incumbent fosters and strengthens long-term relationships with JMC members and develops and manages individual primary gift stewardship strategies to effectively communicate the impact of giving to McGill’s largest donors. The Stewardship Officer develops and implements tailored strategic member communications as well as ensures proper documentation and communication of stewardship plans and efforts.
